I wouldn't do it to fight the system, that's silly. It's a good way of traveling. Cheap and fast.

so is hot-wiring a car, actually faster... both are illegal and if caught can land you in jail just the same, before you bring it up as an argument.

    I agree
i have done it once i didnt even go that far
    (*colorado to utah or something)
    and it sucked
    I wouldn't suggest it
but im not against people who do it.
some people i see who do it could have took that crust fund money and
bought a ticket. public transport is pretty cheap.
and im sure most hoppers would take a car trip or a bus if they had the
    money or the choice.

you find a nice piggy back and it is quite comfortable. some beers and shit and you get a nice view of the country . just as dangerous as hitching i think. you have to watch for yard dogs and older fascist train hoppers.

If you are going to go train hopping there is nothing on here that anyone could tell you to allow you to do it safe alone or without someone who has done it before. If you are going to train hop, you want to go with someone who has done it before. I had a friend died from doing it before, and she has done it plenty of times before and it's easy to mess up. And it's not so fast either, sometimes you are on a train for 15 hours and you may not have even made it that far. You also have to watch out for the people controlling the train because if you are caught, police may be called, or they may throw you off in the middle of nowhere after beating you with a bat. And if you say you won't get caught, well it's easy too and a lot of the time on a 15 hour train ride you probubly will fall asleep.

Not to be a hard ass but trainhopping sounds stupid, boring and dangerous. I know it's a trend among runaways and street kids but seriously, you can die from that shit, get fined, get in trouble, etc.

Most trainhoppers I meet are pretty fucked up in the head, or are total militant hard asses. They think they are the shit, and are revolutionary because that are loud and attract attention to themselves in public settings.

They sit outside stores spanging all day, get wasted, and do absolutely nothing positive, but be on a permanent vacation, which I don't see how is a vacation because dumpster diving, begging for money on the sidewalk, sleeping in parks and abandoned building, and having to deal with even more FUCKED up people like the police and crazzy ass rapists and murderers is the life.
I'm talking about those who do this shit by choice. I'd never live like this unless I had to.

Also, some of these people are total assholes, and don''t soclialize with you unless you are as extreme as them, as they come from rich families and live off of "crust funds". I've tried talking to them, and they were so stuck up and crazy that they just overtalked me and ignored me.

Some of the trainhoppers and nice, like some of them aren't totally fucked up, but the ones who've been doing it for a long time are kind of scary and militant.

I'd stay away from trainhopping unless you really want to do it, but really you can DIE, imagine getting crushed under train.

True stroy of Biran Anderson, trainhopper

Completely fucking disagree, I've met some really exceptional individuals that are as down to earth as possible and are just addicted to roaming the planet... stop fucking judging people by your standards and norms and just try to create a human bond. Lachlan I love you and salute you little brother wherever on the sphere you find yourself...
