It's because PETA are a bunch of hypocrites. They preach a message of absolutely no animal testing and yet one of their top members uses insulin. She justifies this as a necessary evil because of the good she does for animals.
In the town I live in we also have a place called Second Chance. They do not kill the animals. Ever. The conditions are much better for the animals than the Humane Society and they have nothing to do with PETA.

Petas I would rather go naked than wear fur campaigns were so fucking stupid sexist and offinsive. They never actouley participate in helpful direct action they just sit around and bitch about marilyn manson wearing leather and obama swatting a fly. When they do actouley get things done they just distribute propoganda and participate in stupid non helpful protests.

They gave a woman named Temple Grandin an award for developing more efficient, "humane" methods of slaughtering animals. How that helps to "end cruelty", I really have no idea.

Peta's whole way of protesting and all just doesn't work.
There's other animal right groups that don't just run around screaming "how many animals have you killed today!!" , but who actually shows the benefits and convenience of vegetarianism.

That Peta put down some animals at a shelter would be okay, if they were harming other animals or taking up so much space that a lot of other animals can't be helped (even though i hate that kind of economical thinking with animal lives)... But one year, they'd helped only like 10 animals, while killing hundreds. The local shelter close to my home gives hundreds of animals new homes each year, and that's just one shelter.

Its really sad. I guess part of this is because I've heard some PETA members are really against animals as pets/companions for the most part. The ALF on the other hand says that finding rescued animals good homes (or sanctuaries) is the most local thing to do rather then kill them or let them die on the streets. I really believe PETA does a lot more harm then good, true they raise some awareness but if they're just turning around and killing animals themselves what point are they really getting across?

Agreed... And that whole "no pets" thing is wrong i think. There's a lot of animals today which have been genetically made to be companions for humans... they would not do well in nature (think of the chihuahua for example). Also, many animals have fine lives amongst humans - i've had birds, rabbits and guinea pigs that have all lived long and healthy and had time and space to eat grass and get exercise. Now i have two cats that are free to go where ever they will, but they come back for food and because they are being well treated. I really fail to see the problem, and i don't think Peta does the best for animals by letting them be alone in a society where humans - like it or not - are changing their habitats.

But if that is why they put down some animals, i'm starting to actually HATE Peta. Those poor animals deserve a chance!

Agreed. Between puppy mills, animal testing labs, and animals that are raised for gambling, most don't have the ability to survive on their own and need compassionate human companions to take care of them, like it or not.
PETA scares me at times because of its popularity, its less about helping animals and more about outlandish public shows, they really have become a parody of the animal rights movement and a hypocrisy that many buy into.
Kudos for taking and care of so many animals by the way

    Bunny:
Yes... Puppy Mills, animal testing and such are the problems with pets... but that's not reality for the majority of pets. Also, we hear stories about pets being mistreated by owners, but that's still not the majority of pets. Most pets are treated well, living normal lives. Many of them are maybe not getting as much attention as they should, but they are healthy and probably just as loved as they would be in nature. And many pets have super lives - i pretty much envy my cats freedom for example.

Support groups like Anima, they actually do something. Because of Anima, the danish animal rights organization, 5 out 8 of the biggest supermarkets have banned fur products, the mink industry is now under double surveillance with visits from inspectors without warning and the whole country has seen footage of scared and mistreated animals, obtained by smuggling cameras into a farm.
THAT'S an animal right group that make a difference!

i really believe everyone in PETA is at least a little bit retarded. i fail to understand how throwing paint and flour at people is a good way to get people to take you and your cause seriously.
