    Hey there,

Just found out about these forums through a friend request on Myspace. I'm from Aberdeen, Scotland but I'm staying in Edmonton, Canada until September. I haven't made any anarchist contacts here yet, I missed the anarchist book faire, didn't notice the posters until the day after the last day :( .

As far as anarchism goes, it wasn't until fairly recently I realised I was an anarchist. I was active in socialist politics for a number of years, and after witnessing lots of infighting, moral schizophrenia and much more I became dissolusioned with the socialist movement. I remained inactive for a couple of years as I tried university (and failed), and then I got back into animal rights activism, and through that I read an excellent book called 'Making a Killing: The Political Economy of Animal Rights' by Bob Torres. In this book he links the AR movement with leftist activism (specifically social-anarchism) and is very critical of any leftist who does not recognise that animals have rights. So it was through this that I got into anarchism and have started reading some of Bookchin's, Bakunins and Kropotkins work. I am also interested in Michael Alberts 'ParEcon'.

As far as music goes my favourite band of all time is Propagandhi. When I first listened to 'Less Talk, More Rock' my 15 year old brain was turned inside out and I received a hefty kick in the ass from my conscience. This set in motion my constantly developing leftist thought. Apart from them I've started getting into a lot of crust: Nausea, Doom, Fall of Efrafa, Resistant Culture, Behind Enemy Lines; you get the idea.

Anyway, hope I can meet some fellow edmontonian anarchists, if not then at least participate in some good discussions!

Hello and welcome from a Minnesota peace punk. Great list of bands there, I love crust as well. As for the books you listed, also excellent, might have to re-check those out. Cheers and beers.
