A bug was blocking new registrations of people using a Hotmail address, with an error that displayed "no disposable email". Thanks to the person who reported the problem to the Tech Team who immediately fixed the problem. It's unclear when this problem began so it's possible that several other legitimate signups were mistakenly blocked.

A short shutdown of the forums will be necessary for a few hours because a change of hardware is planned on Server 3 which hosts the forums. No specific date yet, but it will be in the next few days. A notice will be posted on the site during the temporary closure. Like last time, the team will try to coordinate to do this during night time to minimize the impact.

 

Today, the Server 3 which hosts the forums was crashed for several hours today. For some reason, the automatic alert was not sent to the tech team so we were not notified until a member contacted the team on No Gods No Masters Network – Servers status and information about hosted websites (thanks - that's the right thing to do in the event of a prolonged outage)

The hosted sites are now back online. The cause of the failure is still being analyzed...

 

On February 22, a colleague of the team made an update on the 3 forums in order to correct a bug that causes emails to be sent to invalid email addresses, which causes several problems with the mail server. The change caused the "user_state" value to be changed to "email_bounce" when an email sent to an invalid address bounced.

The problem is that my colleague didn't know that by default, XenForo will automatically block access to the forum if the email address is invalid. We have never required members to validate their email addresses to participate, so there are thousands of members with invalid addresses. The admins have modified the default functioning of XenForo to allow you to participate with an invalid email. But changing the user_state to email_bounce reactivated the forced validation of email addresses.

In short, since February 22, thousands of members have been blocked by mistake, and it was impossible to post on the forum because an error message indicated that the email address was invalid.

I canceled the changes and put back the old version, access to the forum is restored for everyone. Sorry for the inconvenience
