    Jezus And The Gospelfuckers Biography

Band recorded with Fred Schrijber (Jezus), Mark de Haas (Twee + Half), Jos Dans (Jos) and Tos Nieuwenhuizen (T.O.S).
    ---

Jezus And The Gospelfuckers formed in Haarlem in 1977 after hearing the Sex Pistols, and moved to squat heaven Amsterdam the following year. They played their first gigs in squats with bands like the VD Patients, the Bugs and the mighty Ivy Green (who were the only Dutch punk band with an LP out at that point), and moved into 'Huize Chaos' themselves ('Jezus' was 15, his brother Embryo 12...). In 1981 they squatted a big house with a huge safe underneath, so they could practise whenever they wanted, and started to grow as a band.

They started getting gigs with bigger, international names like the Exploited and the U.K. Subs and gigs usually turned into bloody mayhem, often ending in fistfights with the cops. They also stole whatever they liked from any band, not giving a damn who Charlie Harper was I guess. When their violent reputation started to get them banned from clubs they started using other names (like Feest, meaning Party), but for two years they couldn't get a single gig.

In this sabbatical period they became frustrated by the political scene that took over Holland. Bands like the Ex and the Rondos dressed and sounded like Crass, and it became very uncool to be a 'party band'. Luckily the mighty Discharge started trailblazing at this time, influencing Jezus And The Gospelfuckers to start playing again. Faster and louder, of course. They made a demo tape that started selling a little, and they got a gig in Arnhem with San Francisco's MDC, another band that influenced them at that time.

In 1983 they lost their rehearsal space, some of them blew out their ears while playing, some fell in love, some drank themselves into a stupor. Jezus went on to play with Agent Orange, which is another drunk, violent story..
