That's some beautiful art work and photography of the Zapatista movement. It's such a tragedy that they are still fighting for even the most basic human needs. I have family in Mexico who I've visited since I was a kid. When your poor in Mexico you are nothing. American poverty would be a luxury to these people, but poverty is always ugly in any form.

The question of why Latin America is so poor can be directly attributed to Neoliberal practices and free market scams. That entire region of the world is brimming with natural resources and ocean lining. The United States and much of the industrialized world have been siphoning off the life blood of that area (resources, labor, and money). How it functions is complex so I'm not going to break the whole history and system of Neoliberalism down here, mainly because I'm unqualified to do so and there are writers who've already done it effectively. Here's a quick animation though I think is interesting.

When you really break down colonialism and post colonialism, you'll see the direct link between business and human/environmental exploitation. Neoliberalism, which is essentially the economic philosophy/system by which Neocolonialism functions by, is the root problem. You cannot persuade an average person to follow Neoliberalism because the policies are destructive to their interests and so you offer them non tangible reasons such as hate, patriotism, religion, and other facades to support Neoliberalism.

The point to all this is: If you oppose racism, fascism, and exploitation, which are all symptoms, then you must oppose Neoliberalism.

The Revolution is like the dawn
There are those that slumber
Waiting for it to arrive
But then there are those
That sleeplessly walk the night
To reach it

Another photo, more zapatistas bases arriving to municipalities on December 21, a day on the 15th anniversary of the massacre in Acteal. Viva EZLN!

The five snails have awakened. Since Friday morning, thousands of the Zapatista Army of national liberation (EZLN) support bases have mobilized peacefully toward the central squares of at least five municipalities in Chiapas: San Cristóbal de las Casas, Las Margaritas, Comitán, Ocosingo and Altamirano. There remained in silence for a few minutes, to then concentrate troops for a March in San Cristóbal de las Casas.

So far, there has been no ruling by the EZLN. The March has been conducted in total tranquility and without incident.

Just watched a GREAT documentary on the Zapatista movement last night on the Tube called "A place called Chiapas". Really gives you a sense of what both sides of the spectrum down there are dealing with. Viva!
