i think penis envy is such a great album, for the messages as well as musically, but yeah a lot of their shit i don't get in to because of the sound but definately all of their songs have great words and great things to talk and get mad about, and that's why i listen to crass.

they may not be the first band I want to throw on, but I was the only one of my friends that liked Crass, and did not insist they sounded like a marching band.

Born in 1963, enjoyed the first waves of punk and hardcore. Never really liked Crass musically but lyrics were ok. Too strong to ignore them. Now I have two sons 14 and 16, we listen to Crass again and together and go to underground gigs together. No matter the music. Crass's words and lyrics sounded even without music, take them as a poetry with a background noise. Most important : tell the world you don't like them. Freedom.

...and by the way Crass didn't come alone, they brought along with'em a totally new powerful STYLE of expression. Despite the difficult sound, there was a lot of beauty and art in their expression, be it musical, graphical or political. A small great revolution. Can we really forget the sound / images / lyrics / sketches of other bands like the Flux of Pink Indians, the Rudimentari Peni, and eventually the Poison Girls ? That was an incredible period of creation, in any sense. And mind liberation. Wasn't it ? A great inspiration also for many of us, I'm sure.

The mention of Crass makes me want to hear Shaved Women. That is the track that hooked me. The only band I can think of that has a similar sound was a 90s UK band called Huggybear.

Is it the avante garde aspect? I find tht turns a lot of punk fans off, they're just too arty farty for them musically speaking.

I like the sound. It's their own. "Do They owe us a Living" is just something I will actually sit down and listen to. But seeing what some people post about this is kinda funny. There was another post calling them "greedy selfish fucking bastards" and now people are giving saying they like them. :lmao:
