    Also, why do you choose anarchism over communism ? Do people have to choose ? My father is marxist, and I don't really know what's better between them.

    It sort of depends on the form of communism. Libertarian communism pretty much is anarchism. Authoritarian communism (the kind that uses authority/a state to reach their goals), however, without fail (as far as I know) end up as something corrupted and far from the initial goal.

    Edit: I found an older thread discussing this very topic, some good posts there as well!

    One point to add is that historically speaking, communists haven't been very kind to anarchists, so I for one am a little leery of anyone claiming Marxist-Leninism.

    For the longest time I thought Leninism was the more mellow version of communism when it comes to authority, but it turns out the gulag system came about under Lenin so... Yeah.

    With All Due Respect To The Excellent Points Brought Forth On This Whole Anarchism vs.
    Communism Subject. My Basic Perspective Is_All Forms Of Socialism / Communism Are
    Official Positions Of State Somewhere Past Or Present. While We Are At It, Let's Throw In
    Fascism, Monarchy, Capitalism, Terrorist, Dictator, And Any Other Forms Of Government
    That I'm Forgetting. The Point Being_Anarchism Opposes All forms Of Domination And Involuntary Hierarchy, Including The State, As Chains That Restrict Personal Freedom.

    I hear you! There are, however, forms of socialism that rejects all forms of state ownership and often have an anarchist approach. Some argue that if anarchism would be a political ideology, it would more or less be a form of "libertarian socialism".

    Indeed, AFAQ says that anarchism is socialist, just not authoritarian, and that some anarchists prefer the term "libertarian socialism" as a way to avoid the social stigma of "anarchy". I say fuck 'em if they can't think critically, but admittedly, PR has never been one of my strong suits, so I don't believe there's any harm in the label.

    I think it's important to differentiate between authoritarian communism (gulag, millions of people dead, power tripping mad men) and libertarian communism (libertarian socialism, anarchism in practice pretty much). Where anarchism is more of a philosophy than a political ideology with a set framework, various flavors of communism can be just that. Well, if handled properly.

    My understanding of it is that when communism tries to reach socialism with authoritarian measures - i.e. through a state with power to abuse - it's going to go wrong because of course it is. That's when you get your Stalins, your Lenins, your Maos etc. Communism that tries to reach socialism while following an anarchistic mindset wouldn't leave room for any power to become mad. That's sort of how I look at it.

    A quote from the anarchist band Operation comes to mind; "we're not going to seize the power, we're going to crush it".
