I know the types all too well... :@
They are just too "Punk Rock" for me.
As for "Punk Idols" I personally see nothing wrong with them myself.

The most popular band here, Carburetor Dung once said at a gig that I attended that being apathetic towards politics is dangerous since politics affects you in many ways.

Also, I like how these kind of people wouldn't pay attention when their rights for a minimum wage and unionizing are being removed, but if a black guy or a female gets promoted at his workplace and he bitches about how the system is screwing him and cries racism.

I think what you are referring to are influences, as opposed to 'idols'.

Influences come in many shapes and forms, bands like the exploited and sex pistols are probably cited more often because they are more well known

Rather than 'destroying idols', (in which you will inevitably spend way more time than you want to talking about how a band or artist is shit than talking about why a current band is awesome), I think focus on talking about the music you love and recommending people to listen to that.
I will check out Matt Domino and Justin Pearson, you can check out The Murderchord (youtube 'Whiskey and Water).

I don't hate old bands for what they've done, but yes, it gets very fucken old when they are all that crops up in conversation.
