Whereas if you were to replace the word "wider" with "gegen" (which you're probably familiar with from the slogan "Gegen Nazis", and also means against) to make the word Gegenstand instead of Widerstand, it would mean "(an) object"

Actually, I forgot about Dutch lol. I didn't technically learn to speak it but since it's so similar to Afrikaans I can understand most of it, especially when reading. Trying to follow a conversation is a little bit harder. Hell, I'm German and I have trouble understanding some heavy German dialects, like Bavarian, let alone Swiss-German. I guess it's similar as for an English speaker having difficulties understanding a heavy Scottish accent

Yeah, a lute is the one I was thinking of. But it could also be a mandolin. I doubt it's a balalaika, that's a traditional Russian instrument. Never heard of a bazouki but I've heard of a bazooka . They make a kaboom sound!
