So yeah, speaking of long guitar leads/ solos - I don't like long leads, or "metal" leads in punk (short "punk" leads are fine and can really elevate a song. Even (or especially) chaotic, messed up leads are great (like those "amateurish"-sounding "punk" leads that I love)). But I don't mind them in metal, as long as they're done well. The band Death, amongst others, has some very good leads. There are loads of examples but here's just one (I think they have 2 lead guitarists that complement each other very well): Listen from around 2:15
