    Pornostroika Dadaifi (Greece)
Lykofos ton Pornokratoron (Twilight of the Pornomasters) 2003

Subversive, spontaneous, non-conformist, unconventional are only a few characterizations for this release of Pornostroika-Dadaifi, which comes to shake up the stagnant waters of the established music (not only) order.
"Pornostroika Dadaifi" is a “sound revenge band”, which was created in Mytilene, Lesvos in 1999. Their music style can’t be described exactly. They can be categorized as “Cyber Punk-Metal” or Greek “Industrial Punk” or “Avant-garde Metal” with Gothic Darkwave influences.
Consistent to their name as the Dadaists, they do not follow the conventional musical forms, and this might sometimes (in my humble opinion) come out detrimental for them, because the listener would expect to hear something more “smooth” (conventional), something closer to the familiar to him music. But as they write about art: "Through this chaotic universe art is not a baby game. For this reason it should go to hell”.
Hence, the listener must be ready to focus more on lyrics than to music, which is the “vehicle” to carry the “songs-denunciations”, “cuff” for the filthy social reality, trying to awaken consciences and to create conditions of confrontational break with the rotten establishment. The lyrics (“recitations”) of this release are mainly in Greek, but also in English and Italian.
Out of the 17 songs of “Twilight of the Pornomasters” distinguish the first two: "Curse" and "And Death Shall Have No Dominion” not only for their songs, but also the very good guitar playing. The lyrics of the latter are verses of the homonym poem of Dylan Thomas. At the next 2 tracks: "The zombies come back" and "Possessed existence" I think they make fun (it is needed as well) referring by their outspokenness to zombies avenging their rulers. The "Humiliated People" is essentially a free recitation supported by a Jazz “saxophone" accompaniment (and football style slogans).
The "Manifesto No. 2" is extended in 3 parts and is dedicated to the global neo-liberal “whirlwind”. Here, the protesting recitation accompanied by Industrial music (style Laibach) with Gothic / Darkwave samples, where the pace is accelerating at the end of the third party referring to galley rowers. From the next tracks, which continue in the same lyrical pattern but change musical forms each time, distinguish the "Alexandria" because of verse recitation from the homonym poem of the Greek poet Kavafis. The "Delight" is a first class "nail" with Punk-like keyboards for alleged Rock rebels, and the next «Pull the strings» and «Rock» are of the same denouncing style about the Music Industry but musically speaking they sound a bit “stale”. The CD closes with «Rock belching" which is an eructation with the rhythms of «Smoke On The Water».
Briefly, they are well-intentioned, inspired or not their lyrics this is not so important, as the fact that they move towards the direction of consciousness raising (as art can contribute to that). But if they want their messages and music to have a greater impact, they would rather be not so indifferent to the musical forms, namely more melodic, following the path of the first two tracks, which (in my opinion) are by far the best songs of this release.
