    Star Commander Biography

Star Commander was a band formed in 2009 in the Dallas/Fort Worth suburb of Arlington, Texas. The original lineup featured Donovan Ford on bass, Christian Medrano on guitar and vocals, Ryan Schefsky on drums and Shane Teague on lap steel, although Teague departed the band after one show. For two years Star Commander was a fixture at local DIY venues such as Fort Worth's 1919 Hemphill and Arlington's Love and Reason, as well as any other space that could conceivably host a show.

Star Commander's short career spawned one full length album, The World Was Sinking & I Was Hardly Surprised, recorded by Alex Atchley, and a split with Denton's New Science Projects which was engineered and mixed by Michael Briggs. Star Commander called it quits for good in 2011 after Ford moved to Denton for college.

2012 saw Ford and Schefsky reunite in the indie-emo band Square Business while Medrano formed the pop punk supergroup Hate Your Friends. The former members of Star Commander have since gone on to dozens of musical projects. As of 2022, Christian Medrano lives in Brooklyn, NY where he records and performs under the moniker Precious Human; Donovan Ford still resides in Denton and plays in BIGHAND//BIGKNIFE and Whep; Ryan Schefsky lives in Austin where he enjoys his retirement from music.
