So I haven't been on this website in forever because I have been to busy with my college slave work. but have been lurking around other sites for information.

Anyway I want to know who grows their own food, makes the daily "essentials", and other survivalist/DiY stuff. I've been looking into growing veggies and herbs as well as raising chickens and quail. I'm actually pretty interested in making my own tooth paste and deodorant (I'll post some links and pictures if I actually try)

So for anyone who is interested I'll be posting up some pretty rad resources
    just to start off:
Learn about poultry of all kinds. (if you're into meat/animal products, If not look at some of the cool pictures of chickens not being raised in battery cages) http://www.backyardchickens.com/
Learn about tons of DiY skills and other misc. stuff http://www.sufficientself.com/forum/

Anyway I'm off to knock out two of my finals wish me luck. :D

Sweet. I'm moving to Florida in a little over two weeks, I'll be out in a rural area for a while and definitely want to at least get a small veggie garden going. I don't know if I'd be confident making my own deodorant. I'll be working outside sometimes and lots of climbing into the back of hot trucks. I don't like to get too stinky...especially when i'm working a legit job (minus 15 punk points).

Good luck on that scholastic shit.

    see it the other way:
25 :a: points for joining the international working class
25 :ecouteurs: points special bonus if you skip the deo-thingie and start to stink AGAINST the wind!
(after almost three days out in the wilds I'm quite a role model with a unique composition of sweat, wood smoke and fresh spring breeze, complemented by a good whiff of mother's earthy smell...)

    @flamoeba:
we did grew foodstuff in the past and started again on a very small scale, the idea to look for information and tipps in the net to copy and collect them along with excerpts from books and other media was always around.
after some time doing indoor-jobs I'm looking for outdoor work now - either gardening/farming or wood working/carpentry for house building, for me it's a bit coming back to almost forgotten skills and learning something new again, my special interest are "old" techniques and the knowledge of handcraft work before the industrial massproduction took charge.
the old plan always suffered from lack of time and a bit lazyness here and there - so what about joining forces and cooperate in collecting knowledge and skills?

    welcome back and good luck!

    Thanks for the luck

In return more links with useful information

If you have been living under a rock for the last few decades Abbie Hoffman happened to write a book with a bunch of useful skills and with the power of the world wide web it has been turned into a wiki. Since nobody can cover the whole site in one link...here is the one about growing veggies and raising animals and such. http://wiki.stealthiswiki.org/wiki/Farm_It

If you don't feel like ripping of your local mega-corp for a couple bucks worth of seeds (they are in little paper packets and cost about $1) there are most likely seed swaps in your area you just gotta look a little bit.

I'm sure this website is of some help/inspiration. get in touch if there is one local and you have questions, or if you're that awesome start your own group and do a little of that "helping the community" get some neighbors eating some non-treated veggies, save on that grocery bill

and Jack as for the Deodorant here is a blog that some chick runs from out west that has a lot more than a really awesome quail hutch. http://suburbansustainability.wordpress ... deodorant/

since I seem to understand that men smell (alot) worse than women just add some chunks of bricks, ground up concrete, and broken glass to her recipe and you'll be ready to tackle the Florida death humidity.
in all seriousness here is some more DiY Deo

In other news since it's the end of the semester here and everyone is moving out and they have rolled in some industrial strength Dumpsters instead of the little trailer cart raccoon cradles they typically use me and my friend are gonna go digging through to see what we can find at the end of the week.
