I realize I could receive a whole lot of shit from quoting Marilyn Manson, but he said, "It's okay to use a drug, but never to need a drug." Which I believe is pretty spot on, taken to an extreme, any drug can completely fuck someones life.

    Re: sniffing

Sniffin' glue is quite desperate, still a big problem with street kids in Romania and other rather poor areas using it constantly and suffering seriously from it, so - burn me at the stake or not - I'm a strong supporter of solvent-free adhesives and a ban on their production.

I once was trying to tell a junkie he should change his socks and clean his feet, as they were covered with open sores. His response: "Let them rot, man." They know what they're doing. I don't think they're sick, they just have different priorities. Let them rock the way they want to rock, they're pretty harmless once they lose weight, damage their brains, and catch debilitating diseases, so...fuck it.

The worst kinds of junkies are Coca Cola junkies, candy junkies, or caffeine junkies, or SUGAR JUNKIES! The first time you drink Coca Cola, you will be not know where you are, you will be in Coca Cola land. Coca Cola has killed millions of people, and still counting. Make Coca Cola illegal today!

isn't there a theory that meat- and sugar consumption is priority in capitalism because it keeps people happy and distracted?

Watching a junkie die is no fun, we had quite a number of them 25 years ago - of course they are sick and loosing their ground, maybe they hardly can't be "saved" - but if they survive their one and only priority long enough many recover by their own effords. in quite a number of cases i didn't hesitated to throw people into the bath tube and applied an enforced skin-treatment.

People get lost with meth and heroine and the like, seen some of my old friends turn into completly different creatures from all that crap...and why are people on this thread considering weed as a harmful drug? Its alot safer and healthier than most of the food you'll buy at any store in north america. Weed should be grouped in with parcley or apples or something, not speed and cigarettes!

Some people get too far lost and suffer too much brain damage I tried helping a friend get off drugs and gave him a place to live he returned the favour by tradeing all my stuff for drugs. Now he lives out of a shopping cart at half his weight claiming he has a condo.

officially weed is a so called "gateway drug" :o because every junkie started some day with smoking weed, after getting drunk on booze, after eating sugar plums and eating herds of innocent cows and pigs and chickens too - and chickens are friends!
i think an unrestricted "legal" sale of cannabis products will help a lot if we manage to rip it from the grip of the drug cartells investing into hard drugs. i don't really believe in the medical aspects, but the overall use of cannabis is so popular by now that the trade is interesting for the criminals pushing the less healthier stuffz too.

    one for the lolz:
q: what do you think about the cannabis problem?
a: it isn't a problem at all - everybody has it...

My thoughts exactly! But that won't ever happen in the USA, the private prisons bring in alot of cash and the majority of "drug" offences there are from weed unfortunatly. Sometimes I think about that prohibition and i literally laugh out loud...you can't grow a plant. What has this world come to?

The reason weed is illegal is that it is competition to the alcohol and tobacco companies, so the alcohol and tobacco companies form anti-drug campaigns for the "illegal drugs", and see their competition behind bars.

I always thought alot of the reason is also because it would be in compitition with the pharmaceutical companies, cause you can't really sell a medacine if you can grow it. It would decimate the profit from that industry because it is even proven to be more effective and safer than any meds you buy off the shelf for certain conditions.

Both really, weed can be smoked for recreational uses as well as for medicine.

i think part of it is the tradition - alcohol in europe dates back far into the early beginnings of civilisation, some of the oldest breweries were found in ancient sumer and egypt - while cannabis was known by the europeans as soon as they reached north africa and got in contact with the pre-arabian africans - some were called "hashish-eaters" in very old scripts, and the ancient greeks had legend about the lotophages, eating some stuff and spending their days in endless tranquility... science is still trying to identify the drug used by this people, but cannabis is the most probable candidate.
in the pre-arabic world alcohol never became popular and was banned by the muslims getting drunk in this climate isn't healthy, so the prophet spoke against it - but not against cannabis...
despite that, cannabis never became popular in europe - and i think because of the different effects of booze and pot.
the ancient greeks had their bacchants, a mythical circus of drunken women, satyrs and other legendary creatures led by bacchus, god of the wine and pan, the inspirer of panic and terror - so the whole bunch of wino's were roving around and kept on boozing - but it wasn't wise to come near them because they easily freaked out completely and ripped the unwary victim into shreds... the ancient celts, the vikings, the germanic berserkers went to battle completely drunk, so they feared nothing and hardly noticed it if they were wounded - celtic furor and going berserk - alcohol had it's use beyond just having fun, and this use became quite popular with people giving orders and telling everyone what to do:
in modern armies grog and rum were given out to the soldiers before assaults were ordered - and again the cannon fodder fought without fear or any regard to wounds and losses and even the ss-guards in the nazi-concentration camps got their daily ration of high percentage booze to forget about sympathy but keep up the terror regime brutalizing and savagely massacring countless prisoners with bare hands or everything else at hand to please the fuhrers will... the use of alcohol in the death camps reached unbelievable excesses documented in ss-internal investigations about the reasons for the lack of discipline and the high level of corruption in the termination system. too bad if something gets much too useful...
unlike that cannabis - try to imagine a soldier smoking a spliff before assaulting the enemy trench or storming up that damned mountain on ivo jima... it won't work, and the pentagon became more than concerned about the relations between the widespread use of cannabis in army and marine corps and the lack of interest the GI's had for "search and destroy" those damned Vietcongs... the soviets experienced the same problem in afghanistan, where the mudjaheddin pushed drugs to the soviet army wherever possible, before they went to battle absolutely sober and clean.
cannabis went well with the dropouts refusing to integrate into the mainstream society, starting with the beat poets in the 50's travelling to north africa and bringing cannabis back with them, during the south-asean wars and the soldiers bags full of souvenirs the hippies caught flame - voila, the bosses started to condemn the drug culture for obvious reasons...

i don't believe that the cops act as slave catchers for the private prison industry - this symptom of capitalist pragmatism isn't important enough to be reasonable and it resembles far more to the brit's "work houses" of the 18th/19th century used to keep "the fallen" out of sight while sparing the state the efford to care for the culprits by delegating it to some business man able to deal with the fact that enforced labour is far from being effective and profitable - see the german and soviet camp systems, were the effects of neglect and the resulting opposition led to sabotage and covered work-refusal.
prisons are meant to deter those outside the walls - and the germans back home already gave up on this because of the negative side effects and the high number of cannabis users overcrowding the cells.

^ insightful. I've heard alot about the booze before battle thing, my dad was telling me that in the 70s and 80s all the cops there had to drink whiskey before heading into riots (this is in france).
Regardless of why weed is "illegal", it shouldn't be. Thanks for the lesson in histroy! :ecouteurs:
