Thought I'd bring up the Taboo subject of hard drug use among Punks, how do you feel about it, have you ever had a drug problem, do you look down on fellow Punks that do, what about mariguana or alcohol abuse? Is one o.k. but not the other?

    how is it taboo?

i've used a LOT of different drugs over the years. i can honestly say i don't really think i've been addicted to anything other than nicotine. i have however seen drugs totally destroy lives and friendships, particularly hammer in the 90s and then ice in the 00s. the effect drugs have on people's lives is entirely dependent on the person, and i've seen a lot of really strong amazing folks "fall" because of them, while others seem more functional because of their habits ironically enough. the amount of really awesome music made by REALLY drug addled people is an example.

maybe taboo is a bit dramatic, but it's a topic we definitely avoid talking about

personally, i think the system wants us to be doped up on drugs, drunk off our asses, dying of lung cancer and under any synthetic influence that's out there. it makes us that much easier to control.

Nicotine, weed, hashish, alcohol (though I've veered away from liquor and mostly drink beer now) and the occasional bit of coke.
I haven't done coke in about 6 weeks now and I'd like to do it again, but I'm not panicking to get it, so I think I'm okay with that. As for the soft drugs.. man I really DON'T want to go without that... lol
So I have more of a 'problem' with soft drugs than hard drugs.

For me fuck hard drugs. I can see weed and shrooms, maybe acid, but still the last are pushing it for me. I think that hard drug users ie heroin, crack, cocain, pcp, meth etc, are very stupid people. I see no reason to do stuff like that. I knew a guy who got into all those drugs listed, and he is so fucked up most of the time, it's not even funny.

    That's just my view.

I guess there are many different opinions on this subject which is healthy, I myself was a baby during the first generation of punks but I was there and unfortunately 90% of us were on speed or heroin, at 11 years old (1978) I was already on meth and I got really good on guitar because of it. I've paid dear consequences in my life since, along with the vast majority of first generation punks a lot of who are dead or just plain burned out. Understandably there is a big revulsion to these behaviors among younger Punks, however; I disagree with the exclusion of Punks w/ drug problems from being part of. ie= I hate tweakers, Fuck heroin, etc. Its a fine line but they are our brothers whether they are sick or not. Currently I only have alcohol in my life as a vice, but I don't agree that one vice is necessarily o.k. and another is not. This is Punk Rock not an All American Football Club.

    Fuck hard drugs.

I experienced some hard drugs during my teenage years but i grew up.

I don't like alcool, i hate the taste and the feeling... But i do smoke a lot of hashish (too much...)

    I don't smoke cigarettes

Soft drugs like hashish and weed should be legal

Now watch this short documentary. It's in french but i found english sub-titles.

    Part1:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faU9N4WY ... re=related

    Part2:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOvg2W1X ... re=related

This drug is only illegal because some big companies had interest to defend and they brainwashed peoples with bullshit propaganda like the Reefer Madness... And it explain why ALL big companies in influencial sectors like Oil, forest industry or fabric industry have a lot of reasons to oppose to legalization if they want to keep making big profits

    Watch this documentary:
    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 9604&hl=en

It's called "grass - the history of marijuana" and it explain the story of the anti-marijuana propaganda and lies since 100 years. It's incredible the lies they have tryed to make us swallow. At first saying marijuana would kill you, then that weed smokers would kill peoples, or become crazy, or become sexual addicts, etc....

    One more thing:

A couple of years ago, canadian government asked a senate comitee to make a very serious research on cannabis.

Their conclusions was that marijuana should be legalized with no other conditions.... Others conclusions are that marijuana is LESS HARMFUL FOR HEALTH THAN CIGARETTE AND ALCOHOL. And this study is available everywhere on the internet, i have read all pages of it when it was released... They also said it is false that marijuana use can lead to hard drugs use, and basically all the rumours on the dangerousness of marijuana are FALSE.

But the government chosen to ignore it.... Anyway we all knew government wanted this study in the hope that the conclusions would be "marijuana is dangerous" so it would give them an argument to let it stay illegal.

I understand where your coming from, but I don't agree that people who only smoke mota or only drink are some how better or o.k. and everyone else is excluded. Obviously Ungovernable I don't know you so I don't know if your like this in your relationships, but here in San Diego I've come across situations where people are disrespecting each other because of the difference in their drugs of choice which I find fuckin' ludicrous.

I'm in favour of the decriminalisation of all drugs. Controlled supply to any adult who chooses to use drugs (for whatever reason) is better for both the individual and society. The individual gets access to a cleaner supply away from a criminal underworld that can be incredibly dangerous. They can also gain access to medical / mental health / counselling services through the supply point. The criminal underworld loses an important market, source of income and cheap/free labour. The wider community will experience far fewer anti-social drug-related crimes, as users will not need to fund a habit and dealers will be put out of business by the legal supplies.

    Further reading on decriminalisation:

    http://www.tdpf.org.uk/

The 'problem' isn't so much about an individual's drug use but what caused it in the first place, what maintains it, and how we best treat it. Behind the physical or psychological addiction of the user, you'll usually find a victim of a broken society. Change the system and you change the whole dynamic of drug use and misuse.

In the meantime, we have an obligation to look out for and aid our friends wherever we can. That doesn't mean to say we have to tolerate their negative drug-affected behaviour in our own spaces, but we should support those services and spaces that will help them.

I write this as someone who has tried most drugs, used some quite heavily in the past (speed, booze and psychedelics), and who continues to enjoy almost daily social use of weed and alcohol (rarely to excess). I still occasionally have fun with stimulants once or twice a year (E, coke, speed). I also work, socialise with and live among problematic drug users, with varying degrees of success :D

I have used a lot of drugs over the years and have never really had a problem with them, but I've had, and lost, a lot of friends to them. I feel that use of anything in moderation is fine, but I still believe that they should all be legal.

I have my opinions, yes it's radical opinions.... But still i have some junkies friends, most of my friends take hard drugs, etc...

I have nothing against it unless they start saying they are so punk rawk and that real punx drink beer and shoot heroin..... or if they mindlessly promote the use of hard drugs

Damn right. This was the next thing i wanted to talk about.

In canada we have some "legal heroin" programs where drug users are assisted and get something to eat, even a place to sleep.... And doctors check up if you mixed drugs before giving your dose, and they force you to stay after taking the hit to see if everything is alright....

But government don't like this kind of stuff.... Right now it's becomming to be fucking crazy in Quebec. The fucking retards at Quebec City decided to illegalize the distribution of empty syringes. This is fucking ridiculous, now the junkies will have nowhere where they can get their syringes and guess what they will do ???? They will stop taking heroin because the government wants to, of course. NO THEY WON'T, WHAT THE FUCK. They will keep taking heroins and because they can't find empty syringes anymore they will take their friend's syringes and in two years we will realize we raised the transmission of VIH and other sexual transmissible diseases. What a fucking intelligent way to solve the problem....
