There's some really nasty rumors going around right now about what happened the other night. We gotta stop playing shows for a bit due to concern for our own safety.

If you wanna check out some stuff:
    www.myspace.com/taksedriver

It's not me playing in the recordings, cause I'm pretty new, but there it is. I've known these guys for years and they just recently asked me to play for them.

Yeah, I'm not really big on the songs posted. Too mellow. We got better ones. More along the lines of "Today feels like orange."

I think it depends on what you're looking for. What type of people you want to surround yourself with. What your personal beliefs are. What kind of music you choose to listen to, though I realize Punk's not stictly about the music. Punk's different for everyone, and peolpe choose to live the lifestyle for different reasons. Just a matter of finding the people who feel the same way as you do, and share common interests.

Yeah, Punk's kinda sold out, but honestly, what HASN'T? Everything becomes popular at one point. Whether or not you stick to the roots is what separates you from the "fad", so to speak.

Punk's not dead. But, it seems that the "older" generations think the "younger" generations don't know anything and are submitting blindly to a trend. Fuck age. It's about experiecne, passion, making a statement, believing in what you believe in, and making your mark in society (or against it) and in the world itself.

Just my two cents. Ha.

My big problem is with a lot of the elitist punks out there. I've really started disliking the preachy straight-edge kids from my area whom, I feel, look down on people who aren't straight-edge (of course not all the straight-edge kids are like that).

I do like the DC area punk scene for the most part. It's not what it used to be though. Now a lot of it is hardcore with a lot of the bands I like playing in Baltimore and skipping DC. I am also a little fed up with the younger kids showing up at house shows. I feel bad saying that because I used to be a young kid and was accepted into the scene when I first started getting into it. One of my first memories of the DC punk scene was walking into the backyard of a house and the biggest skinhead i'd ever seen walked up to me, introduced himself and handed me a budweiser, this back at 14/15.

Ultimately what I think needs to be realized is that punk should be a community. All the punk kids out there need to get a long with each other and have a good time together instead of fighting or looking down on other punks. If this were the case the scene would be so much more enjoyable.

It seems like a lot of the young punks don't know their history...or, don't know their history beyond the obvious bands (Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Sex Pistols, etc). Shit I know some people who think Crust Punk means anything that sounds like Leftover Crack...I need to get those kiddiess to listen to Doom, Nausea, and the Electro-Hippies, show them what Crust Punk REALLY means (not that Leftover Crack are bad, they're great, and Choking Victim were the best ska-core or ska-anything band ever IMO). And it seems like some kids latch onto Punk without giving a shit about the ideals behind any of it.

I agree, but I dont like people who think that only young punks ( kids ) are destroying our scene, becouse it sounds like they cant have their own opinions which is stupid. Most of punks are old enough not to act like kids. So, if they hang out with nazis, if they wear Sex Pistols shirt, and yell anarchy - thats the same problem. Kids do have their opinions, and they can even have more realistic ones. Lot of "older" punks dont know about punk history too.

Well, punk scene has one main problem - we are making new society with nazis, when we should be against them. At least here, in my counry. Punks dont have problems with them and they dont have problems with punk. Some of us, think that antifascism doesnt mean ignoring stupid fucks like nazis. Anyway, yeah - scene is pretty much dead. There is always some groups of punks who arent conservative, and really enjoy the music and hanging out, while other are simply called fashion punk, and they dont mind it.

Also, Im frustrated becouse lot of bands are becoming more punk rock, then real punk. They are singing some love songs, song made for dancing etc. Which, scares shit out of me. Young punks should be influenced by lyrics, by way of life adult punks live, they should be able to talk to someone...when i take a better look, punk scene is pretty much fucked up :ecouteurs:

Bakica, you are right. but these arent nazis, their just fueled by a few symbols. They're just a bunch whiteboys that wanna be a part of something. they're not a socialist workers party, and they're damn sure arent organized. they're not out causing genocide.

The kids are being influenced by adult "punks" as you say, but thats the problem.

@Bakica (quoting kept fucking up so I'm just gonna do this)

I'm 17 anyways, so I certainly wasn't saying only young punk kids could be misinformed =)
And older punks not knowing about the history either/only knowing the "obvious" bands makes sense too, I just notice it most among younger ones (of course I really don't know any older ones anyways though)

In my city right now, there aren't very many punk bands at all. Off the top of my head, I can only think of a handful, and very few of those bands are explicitly political or anarchist, with the exception of maybe Broadcast Zero. However, there is a very diverse independent music scene in the city, where bands from completely different styles play together and share ideas. While very few bands consider themselves to be explicitly anarchist, there is a very low tolerance for racism, sexism, homophobia, etc., which I think is saying something when there are shows with blues/country bands sharing a stage with a hardcore band.
There is a strong commitment to DIY ideas, people hosting shows in their basements, kitchens or living rooms, bands self-producing their albums, people putting out zines and putting on shows for the purpose of spreading ideas and music. In that sense, while I don't feel that the scene is very punk in terms of the music that a of the bands play, there is a very close-knit scene of diverse musicians that I definitely feel are putting punk ideals into action.

Its a four letter word for stupid, punk. its the uniform you all put on every morning. you all preach your anti-conformity and then you go categorize. uniting against whom, yourselves? kids dying their hair, sewing patches on their clothes thinking they're making a difference. complaining about the draft they never lived through, wars they never fought. i pity your pejorative heights.

Anarchy is not discord, but absence of government. a tranquil serene state of no borders, a utopia. it will not exist because you all prevent it, we must destroy to rebuild, and rebuilding just creates corruption, it creates order. we must be in a constant state of chaos for your preached ideals to prosper. Power is poison, for it is power that governs us all. whether it be guns, or crushing fists.

Who will supply the gel for your hair, the studs on your jackets, The logos on your shirts you adore? your all servile to this system you detest and you must accept this, or alter this.
