I've noticed a lot of you smoke and dress "punk."
    I never really understood this.
Sure, the style is cool and all, but many of you have talked about how much money you've put into your leather studded jackets, plaid pants with zippers all over it, dyed hair, and gel for your mohawk.
Isn't that doing nothing more than helping the companies you claim to be against?
Shouldn't you be working more for the state of mind-punk, instead of the how to look-punk?

EDIT: I see this thread has been made already.
    Disregard.

im lazy....i have put prolly 200$ into my leather jacket. over a few years. but thats 100$ for the jacket off my buddy. 60$ to order 1000 britsh 77 tall cone studs,100 pyrimid studs and shipping. then the other 40$ was for things like paint and brushes. but from that i did not go to wall mart. got the studs from a distro called studds and spikes. got the jacket from a buddy and i got the paint from a privately owned art store. as long as people go to the small buismnessess to buy things who cares wha they buy. its supporting the big capatilist ways if u go to small pricvatly owned buisnesses. those are just people trying to make ends meat. they are not exploiting the public or and mumbo jumbo like that.

another example. my new vest im doin. the vest was free. given to me from a buddy. the studs were part of the 1000 b77 studs i already had. i made a few patches. bought a few off the bands that have come around...and one i got from x20. a local "punk" store run by a few punks. as long as you dont go blowing tons and tons of cash on big buisnesses i dont see any problem with helping out a small strore.

    am i right?

and for the whole argument ohh you do it for the fashion not the thought or how ever u wanna say it.

making these jackets and vest to me has become more of a hobbie actuly. it seems to really calm my restless mind. i sit down on my futon. smoke a joint. put on a movie and away i go. i can sit there and stud/paint/sew for hours and hours. then i get to wear it around. and i dont walk around acting all cool tough guy wtf. im 5,6 125 pounds. i dont act tough. but in my mind its like this. i feel differnt from you, chick in the fur jacket. i dont think along the same lines as you guy in a suit. its not about being cool or tough its about saying i dont agree with what you saying. and im gunna do what im saying. and theres a bit of a sign i guess saying there are people that disagree with whats goin on and i may just be one person but every time some one sees me they see one more person that does not aggree with how way things are goin.

SHIT IM LATE FOR WORK!!!! haha i fucking love to work! i get to bust down a concrete wall today and build up a new wood one with a door and put dry wall on im stoke bitchesssssssss

Agreed. I love studding jackets and just sewing things. Its just fun to make stuff and wear it around. As for cost, it doesn't have to really expensive. I can't speak for everyone, but i find my jackets at either thrift stores or army surplus stores. The most expensive jacket i bought was $30. I don't find studs and spikes to be too bad, but then again i don't buy huge packs of them.( I'm 5' 7 and 113 lbs, i don't have the frame to support a large amount of hard wear so i end up using and buying less). For me, its the fabrics, threads, needs, etc that tend to get expensive, a couple bucks here and there add up.

Damn near everything i wear comes from the charity shop, or the dumpster behind said charity shop and patches are easy enough to make. What with acrylic paint being so cheap and easy to lift at your local walmart at a lovely five finger discount.
As for studs, i don't even bother unless i happen across a belt or something i can pry them off 'a.
I suppose the only thing i ever really buy is hairdye on occasion. Tried making my own once and it did'nt do a damn thing ( Save make my hair smell like cool-aid )
I do smoke and drink, but i tend to steal those cheap ass cigarillo's from gas stations.
Booze though, i generally do have to buy that. Which fucking sucks.
But in the end it does'nt really matter. We all get fucked in the end right?

    Whats the point?

I wear my 1%ers daily. Same shit different day, not worried too much about how i look. ike yay its cool and all but its not a fashion competition! Especially when people purchase pre punked and patched gear. Fucking wannabe trying to be a part of a scene thats over.

As long as you don't fuckin buy shit from hot topic constantly, you're fine. I buy shit mostly online from crustpunks.com or angryyoungandpoor.com and there's a local store in pittsburgh called from the beyond that sells punk gear. There's nothing wrong with punk "fashion." Its the people who exploit the scene who make it bad, like hot topic, although they don't really sell too much punk gear anymore, they actually bash punk these days.

I stole my denim jacket and pants from a clothing store, the studs were given to me, anything that's been drawn on it was with stolen merchandise, and most of the patches are just shit I've come across or gotten from bands. I've spent no money, except for patches, which are typically given to me anyway. It's a hobby to customize clothes like this, and I'm not going to front, I do it because I think it looks good. Anyways, there's always that tiny excitement when you see someone else in public wearing studs and patches from your favorite bands, it can be a good way to relate to strangers and find connections. I don't see the problem.
