As I've said before, I am currently in and out (mostly in) of hospital being treated for leukaemia. When my treatment gets finished and I am no longer hopsital bound, I plan to get some mates together and put down some songs with positive themes. The music is largely going to be basic and so the lyrics are similarly simple. The exceptions will be a set of lyrics I'm still working on and the last bunch 'World is Flat' a song my previous band never recorded but I think has quite a positive final message (though, it acknowledges socialism and not anarchism):

    Props to the SxE

    We’re here to have fun,
    Don’t want a drink? Don’t have one,
    No beef with your philosophy,
    Props to the SxE.

Not giving you a hard time,
It’s all cool if you’re not hardline,
    It’s all about unity,
    Props to the SxE.

    Not here to create divides,
Each be true to what chimes inside,
What works for you and works for me,
    Props to the SxE.

    Let’s have some Fun

Can’t you smell that Rome is burning?
It’s set in motion the tide is turning,
    There’ll be a revolution soon
And I hope to see you on the frontline.

    There’ll be a revolution soon,
This system will meet its doom,
    From chaos and into order
And I hope to see you on the frontline.

    From chaos and into order,
    A disintegration of all borders,
Hands will join, united in peace
And I hope to see you on the frontline.

Hands will join, united in peace,
We will feel the sweet release
    As capitalism becomes deceased
I will see you on the frontline.

    I’m Still an Anarchist

A friend in college wrote on his diary -
    A massive ‘A’ of Anarchy,
    A teacher asked incredulously,
    ‘You can’t believe that philosophy?’

I was still an impressionable teen
    Unsure of what Anarchy means
Looked it up – Peace and Liberty,
    Anarchism makes sense to me.

    Not the punk chaos shit,
    Anarchy’s not throwing bricks,
It’s finding something better than this...
    I’m still an Anarchist.

    The message itself is simplicity,
It strikes the core of humanity,
    Rejection of an hierarchy –
    That has no validity.

    Not the punk chaos shit,
    Anarchy’s not throwing bricks,
It’s finding something better than this...
    I’m still an Anarchist.

As people age their feelings get bitter –
And their hope goes down the drain,
But I believe things can get better,
Guided by action, this hope remains.

10 years on, I’ve learnt the lesson,
My beliefs get stronger amongst this oppression,
Not the fad of a youthful obsession –
But the best path for human progression.

    Not the punk chaos shit,
    Anarchy’s not throwing bricks,
It’s finding something better than this...
    I’m still an Anarchist.

    World is Flat

They use Thomas Friedman/ As vindification -
For this globalised system/ New wave of capitalism.

The 'age of information' is the age of exploitation
Breaking borders, creating new wage slaves,
Through the route of 'flattening' they control the planet
Draining the world for material wealth.

    Corporate logos/ Spread their tentacles
Controlling consumers/ And it's breaking their workers
    Through border/ disintergration
There is no/ heirarchy of nations
    Just global exploitation/ and that's a system that's working(?)

But this system, as Friedman admits,
    Holds within an unfortunate twist,
This world of united elites -
Is held within a Marxist prophecy.

In early Marxism/ There is a vision
For this globalised system/ To face destruction
    Global exploitation/ Increases frustration
And global integration/ Means global resistance
Through our frustration/ We construct a conscience
Our ways develop/ At Genoa and the World Social Forum
This world is changing/ There will be a new flattening
We will build our utopia/ On the rubble of a revolution.

For in this construct we see all the cracks,
As it gears itself to collapse
Friedman's world will reach its climax...
    ... It's sure to crash.

Age of information is the age of mass resistance
    Crossing borders, united in rage
Through the routes of 'flattening' we'll control the planet
Resisting the order and constructing a new
Through their exploitation and inherent contradictions
We will rise! We will win...

    Comments/opinions appreciated.

    Cheers.

Regarding bands, I was in one called Sick to Death (www.myspace.com/sicktodeathuk). The tracks on the myspace are old and an EP was recorded called 'Airing Our Grievances' but I've never got a copy of it from the guitarist (he's ridiculous at organising shit!). Some of us Sick to Death people were about to start a new project that was to be a bit more 'straight-forward' hardcore punk but then I got sick. So, the plan is to start the new project when I get myself sorted. However, the lyrics are quite negative or confrontational and I feel it's appropriate to do something a bit more upbeat once this shit gets dealt with. So there will be (hopefully) a one-off recording of the songs above before moving onto the new project.

Still, all that's a bit of a way off.

And no, I'm not straight-edge but there is sometimes an issue with it at gigs I have been to, so a unity song seemed to make sense.

Hello. I mentioned that I was trying to put a band together a little while back. Still am! However, I wrote a bunch of lyrics for a group that was to be called Threat but it fell through. Still, I was quite proud of some of the lyrics so here they are. They were meant to be quite broad rather than on specific issues - general points of resistance and anti-oppression. Meanwhile, I am still trying to get my life in order and find a new drummer. Got a couple of mates together for a band with the working title The Angry Brigade but it's so progress. I am pretty much clear of cancer, have been for a while but my health still goes up and down all the time. Generally on the mend, though, so that's all positive.

    The Fallacies of Freedom

    CCTV at every turn,
No more libraries, no books to burn,
They control your movements and your mind,
Too restricted to see the chains that bind.

Do you think that you are free?
    You can’t deny the fallacy.
Do you think that you are free?
    You can’t deny it’s lunacy?

So constricted in our own lives.
    We can’t see how they’re intertwined –
To denied existence in starving nations,
Fast food, TV dinners, empty gratification –
    Dichotomised with famine and starvation,
    Sweat shop shackles cause degradation
And we commit to these brands through resignation,
Them and us slaves to corporations.

Do you think that you are free?
    You can’t deny the fallacy.
Do you think that you are free?
    You can’t deny it’s lunacy?

Freedom – is it a myth?
Freedom – is it a lie?
Freedom – is it a dream?
    Freedom – or a destination?
Do you think that you are free?
    You can’t deny the fallacy.
Do you think that you are free?
    You can’t deny it’s lunacy?
    (Repeat).

    God is Dead

God does not exist, it’s merely a mirage,
Though just a concept its affect is at large,
Everywhere we turn – Mosques, Synagogues and Churches,
But looking inside brings fruitless searches,
Call God to appear and your words are wasteful,
But to expect God to be seen is (apparently) distasteful,
    I say it’s stupid to believe in what I can’t see –
Or believe in without evidence that can’t satisfy me,
But not only to believe but to obey,
To get down on our knees, to beg and to pray,
And so this mirage, it dominates our lives,
Even us without faith feel the oppression that it drives.

Desire for the death of God.

It’s omnipresent but I want it out of my face,
That your religion encroaches – that’s in poor taste,
How can something be everywhere yet never be seen?
Sounds like the mechanics of a fascist regime,
Yes, monotheism is the ultimate dictatorship,
A detached, oppressive icon to which you submit,
Following through fear though you try to call it love,
No God means no authority from the oppressor above,
Don’t try to praise faith for its loving foundation,
With its story of The Fall and of human denigration,
Highlight the morals and the love but that’s a fraction of the faith –
That is filled with violence – abundant with hate.

Desire for the death of God – is dead.
    God is dead.
    God is dead.
    God is dead.

Morality comes from the person not the belief,
Religious interpretation can be healthy or diseased,
I don’t need a God to know wrong from right,
My ethical behaviour isn’t guided by ‘the light’,
Won’t follow God’s commands, my actions are my own,
The false morality of obedience has been overthrown,
Your faith might guide you but it doesn’t make it true,
The lunacy of dominance from a subjective point of view,
The fallacies of faith form the fetters of the mind,
Constrictions of religion holding back all human kind,
Fuck your useless deity, refuse to be led,
It’s a call to freedom when I call God is dead.

    God is dead.
    God is dead.
    God is dead.
    God is dead.

    Riot Now

    Riot here!
    Riot now!
    Right here!
    Right now!

A call for revolution, removal of oppression,
Removal of the sickness that’s intrinsic to the system.
We can’t accept these leeches, there’s a need to burn them,
Parasitic leaders are truly useless vermin.

    Riot here!
    Riot now!
    Right here!
    Right now!

A call for revolution, removal of the disease,
It’s been allowed to fester there are no containing measures,
In the action there’ll be violence, but – through the violence – peace,
And if we do not act we’ll never – be-re-leased.

The time for acquiescence – has been and gone.
Riot and resistance – the time has come.

The time for acquiescence – has been and gone.
Riot and resistance – the time has come.

    Riot here!
    Riot now!
    Right here!
    Right now!

    You’re freedom’s at stake.
    That’s a chance that I’d take.
If we don’t make the change –
    We won’t lose the chains.

    Riot here!
    Riot now!
    Right here!
    Right now!

A call for revolution, a dance to your freedom,
A freedom not yet gained but a valued mission,
United in the struggle, it’s unity that wins,
Riot here right now we shall – be re-leased.

    Never to Return

    Targeting others as your scapegoat,
The only solution is to go for your throat,
There is a need to advocate violence –
When it is the language to mute your response.

    Reactionary.
    Reductionist.
    Retarded.
    Never to return.

Hateful ideology that we cannot tolerate,
A mentality that we will dissipate,
Rather than fill the cracks, you attack the divide,
Perpetuate the prejudice so that you feel justified.

    Destructive.
    Infective.
    Restrictive.
    Never to return.

    Ideology of violence,
    Ideology of hate,
    Ideology of death,
Your avowals will be your fate.
    (repeat)

    Never to return (repeat).
