This worked for my huge 2 foot tall mohawk:
Aussie instant freeze hairspray and elmer's school glue. and a blow dryer

1. Seperate out your spikes and spray the roots, then blow dry them
2. continue step 1 on all of your spikes (6 spikes is standard for a mohawk by the way)
3. After getting all of the spikes up you harden the tips, take the glue in your hands and work it into the spikes, twisting it (but you don't need to glue the roots, it is used to make rock hard tips
4. blow dry the glue so everything is good and hard
5. spray the whole thing and blow dry again

if you do everything right you will have spikes that stand up to a mosh pit, and that could poke an eye out

Good luck. Also if you can't find the Aussie Instant freeze you can use Rave #4

also another tip is to not wash your hair too much, or just wash it with water when you do.

Back in the day I used aquanet in the purple can. Hold the spike tight and spray generously, then hold it for 5+ minutes. Then i'd use some sort of gel on the tips. Afterwards, I'd spray the shit out of the whole thing until it was the consistency of plastic. The wind used to catch it like a sail and fuck up my neck. Lib spikes remind me too much of Rancid now, and I can't imagine taking so much time to style my hair.

I think all the chemicals (styling products, dye, bleach etc.) I put in my hair back then made it thin, though. I've been basically just growing my hair out then shaving my head when it gets too long for the last 13 years or so. Be careful.

When many teenagers first get into punk, they're so full of angst and passion they want to be "punk as fuck" and do something extreme to show the world their allegience (for lack of a better word). Most grow out of it, there's nothing wrong with it. Almost everyone on this board has done it.

When it comes down to it, having a mohawk is really no different than having charged hair or dreads (of which a number of you are guilty). Be cool and cut the kid a break, he just asked a question.
