I'm just curious. I noticed that they're not in the list of Crust Punk bands. They opened my mind to Anarchy and Peace, Atheism, and Agnosticism, but I'm wondering if they really were just cashing in from Punk for their own self interests not supporting the scene, what are your opinions on this? Are Crass really caring people or just music business opportunists?

The problem is not that they are banned but that they use copyright laws to shut down punks sharing their stuff. Not just us - others too.

I suggest you read this thread. It's an old story but we're still pissed about that. That's the reason you're not seeing Crass in the bands list.

TLDR: Instead of just sending an email and asking to take down their albums (which we would have done in less than 24 hours), Crass instead used copyright laws to shut down our Mediafire account. Thousands of albums went offline due to that. It almost killed our community. But we doubled down and invested in infrastructure to build our web host.

So in retrospect, it was the stepping stone that gave us the motivation to build the big network we have today. Today, something like that would never happen, because we are our own webhost. There is no one Crass can cry to and invoke copyright laws to take down albums so they can sell more of them. But we still respect their decision, they don't want their stuff shared for free - fine - but you're not taking down the entire music library for that.

Whoa, that seems really weird that they would do that just to sell more products such as albums and merch. I thought they were about sharing in the first place. Just to let you know, I'm no longer involved with Crass, Mortarhate, or any Major Label or popular punk related band that is cashing in off of popularity or D.I.Y. and not supporting the community or activist causes.

Overall, Major Labels and some D.I.Y. labels sold out to the profitable popular music business. I admit, I thought about it, but completely failed at producing D.I.Y. PUNK and Alternative for Major Labels and Crass and Mortarhate Records. They basically blew me off and ignored my efforts, probably because I am a threat to popular culture and their profits. I really don't understand Colin Jerwood of Conflict too much either. His lyrics have seemed kind of antiAnarchist lately with his newer stuff. Is it sarcasm? If so, I find it depressing.

I wouldn't say I'm an activist or protester anymore though. I'm still into Peace Punk meets Anarcho Punk and Crust though. I don't Hate any band related to Anarchopunk or Artist in general. I just was curious what viewpoints Conflict really has. They seem all over the map.

I'm more about supporting Anarchopunk music than stirring up trouble as an activist and protester, really.

I checked out their new album, This Much Remains on YouTube, and although they had a few good songs, it just lacks the spirit they had in the 80's.

Not that it was a totally bad album, I just didn't really get the sarcastic songs.

Ungovernable -I always appreciate your insights.
Being an aged/punk I subsequently felt a bit emphatic, but when u hear them preach against signing paperwork ( such as enforcing copyright enforcement) for sooo many years.....makes me sad and then !

Thanks. I don't really follow them anymore, but the albums were funny and pretty insightful.
