Can anybody tell me of a website that lists racist bands so that i can avoid accidently listening to racists/nazis while surfing youtube. I looked at the ADL website, which has been quite helpful, but it's a little outdated.

I think I saw a thread on this forum that lists some of them. Or you could check out a racist web site and see what they listen to, but don't worry, you won't catch the racist virus just by accidently hearing a song.

I do the odd bit of trawling YouTube for stuff I've never heard of before. I remember listening to one band who sounded OK, catchy and that, but then the chorus was a really clear SIEG HEIL! And then you feel guilty for having enjoyed it until then. :/

Racism is bullshit. Let me lay my stance before I chip in my 2 cents.

It's my opinion that listening to racist musicians and following their asshole ideology don't necessarily go hand in hand. Johnny Cash put out some anti Black songs and Lynyrd Skynyrd rock a Confederate flag, but I still think they rock. Is that a contradiction within myself for being a Chicano? It probably is. But I enjoy their work. Of course these guys don't come anywhere near Nazi bands or other hate groups so I realize that there's a major difference. Yet, if your not racist (and honestly in this world everyone has some prejudice) then what does it really matter? Now, if you want to wear their shirt which happens to have a giant lynch rope above a swastika, and you get your ass kicked, but your not racist, then congratulation on your brand new pair of brass balls.

    Rocking out for capitalism? :/

"Rocking against Communism," I think that's an interesting thing to rock out against since the people that have been mainly against Communism are Capitalist.

Ah, ok, i see what you mean. I wasn't thinking in that aspect. I don't think that whether they are capitalist bands really has anything to do with what TardisPunk was requesting.

But if you are wondering your self, i don't know the specifics of ALL the R.A.C. bands listed in the link. The reason i posted the link is that any R.A.C. band I've come across are afiiliated with NS ideals and are aggressively racist. I assume that those are the type of bandS TardisPunk was trying to stay away from.

I'm not familiar with any of those bands but you can probably find that out with a quick internet search. what is it that makes u think they're racist bands?

I think i read somewhere(perhaps on this forum) that these bands although not RAC, have connections with that scene. I can't find much on google about it.

Close Shave are VERY grey zone, RAC and close of nazis. Same for Tatooed Mother Fuckers.

Don't know about the other ones

Start by listening to band lyrics. If it's ambiguous, google their name and look for infos about them, interviews, etc

I see what you're saying. There are complexities and shades of grey. Ultimately, it is up to each of us to draw our own line. Although most of my listening is punk, I still pick up a few metal albums and the like. One I got from this year is the new Down EP. Apart from the questionable quality of the EP (they can definitely do better), Phil Anselmo has certainly showed himself to be a dodgy, patriotic fuckwit in the past. Apparently, at least some of The Misfits are Conservative Punks (and Dave Smalley is also moderately right). Do we eschew all these bands and their legacy of music? Each to decide. However, bands that are downright racist and vocal about it - who really would want to listen to that?

And as for Carlin, he's a comedian I've appreciated much in the past but there is this by Richard Pryor as a counter-argument:

Well, i've been doing some research and found out that one of the members of TMF was in the RAC band English Rose. Although, TMF themselves are described as 'non-political'. Close Shave also shared a member with English Rose, and played with many RAC bands. Retaliator released music on Pure Impact records, a label that features many RAC bands. There's no doubt they are a very patriotic band, but not sure if they are RAC. In an interview when asked about politics in the scene they replied 'WE TRY TO AVOID IT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY POLITICS IS LIFE AND WE SING ABOUT LIFE. WE ARE 4 INDIVIDUALS EACH WITH OUR OWN DIFFERENT VIEWS. WE'RE NOT INTERESTED IN TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO THINK, WE DEFEND FREEDOM OF SPEECH'
I can't find anything about Baker's Dozen being an RAC band, but they admit in interviews they are patriotic and hate political correctness. Also one of their ex-members ended up playing in Oi Polloi. So, i'll continue with the research.........

I regrettably was into a lot of that stuff as a kid... but now I wonder if listening to The Smashing Pumpkins is possibly more dangerous than a RAC band. Some of it is so over the top it is very comical, like Johnny Rebel. I am more concerned that my children are being taught the same euro-elitist bullshit in their history classes that I was when I was a kid. On the other hand I was very happy to see that the public schools here do NOT honor Columbus day any more. Baby Steps.

Just to get this straight once and for all - NO ex-members of Baker's Dozen have ever gone on to play in Oi Polloi!! Where this story comes from is the fact that the Oi Polloi guitarist Zodiac used to go to school years ago with the singer of Baker's Dozen. Zodiac and some of the other guys there used to joke about - and make up imaginary lyrics for - a hypothetical dodgy "patriotic" oi band called "Baker's Dozen". The whole thing was a joke and existed only in their imaginations - there were obviously never any band practices or anything like that. Then years later they were horrified when Jon Scott (now Baker's Dozen vocalist) actually went and took the name to turn what had just been a bit of a sick joke into an actual gigging band !!

There's at least one interview on the web though with Jon where he says that Zodiac didn't take the band seriously and went on to play in Oi Polloi so it give the impression that he was actually PLAYING IN Baker's Dozen when of course the reason he "never took the band seriously" was that it didn't exist! So that's where this comes from. Needless to say Oi Polloi and Baker's Dozen have fairly diametrically opposed political views so Zodiac is never too amused when this comes up!
