The funny part is both of the women in the video are easily twice Ben's size. He's a little dude.

    :lmao: My exact thoughts.

On topic: Pretty controversial topic (men hitting women)... Men just have to be careful around that shit because even though we want them socially equal, they just aren't physically equal. You can't argue against the fact that men are physically stronger than women on average, it is just how humans are built. This is why this will always be a controversial issue. If the woman is around your size though and they force you into a situation you can't get out of (and the situation becomes physically threatening) by all means, you have to defend yourself and she honestly brought it on herself. If the woman is relatively smaller than you, you could try a way to diffuse the physical threat without heading into the throwing fists and trying to break them path... Just because you want women to be socially equal doesn't mean they are physically equal.

This is all bullshit, first of all Ben could have easily stopped playing until the person was removed or just refused to play, he didn't have to coldcock her as she was very obviously over-intoxicated. He has been playing punk rock for a very long time and definitely knows better.

@Acid Death, I'm a PC faggot, and you're a neanderthal chump with a big mouth....Mexico doesn't produce cocaine supergenius, it is smuggled through Mexico from South and Central America and I happen to know a couple of 'sissies' that would make you eat your homophobic words...but this is all redundant 'cuz you outta here jackass.

    Re: Ben Weasel punches girl!

I haven't actually seen the video, this computer is mad old and won't play it. I can't speak for Ben Weasel, but I can speak as someone once stuck in an abusive relationship with a girl who was roughly my size and had mental problems, would attack me in my sleep (because she saw a pretty girl on myspace and thought I might think she was prettier...even though I was sleeping). When someone pounces on you in your sleep, sits on your chest so you can't get up and is pounding your face in, you tell me what to do. Personally, I got an arm free and threw one jab that ended it, and I don't regret it.

I do regret staying with her long enough for the time she tried to stab me for trying to leave. Or all the times she's gone around telling people I hit her, making me out to be some sort of wife-beater or something because I defended myself. "OOh big man hits girls oooOOoOOhh"...fuck that shit. I've never hit a female, before or since. But I don't expect somebody to just let someone beat on you and not fight back because it's a social taboo. You can say "Oh, well you just get away from the situation", but sometimes people aren't going to let you. What do you do then?

    Re: Ben Weasel punches girl!

Jack of course in a situation like that where you can be potentially killed you defend yourself and your life at all cost, but Ben is an old road warrior punk that was being heckled and harassed by a very drunk female in the audience, she threw water on him she pegged him at least 3 times with ice cubes (once above the eye) and she spit on him. After the water and being pegged on purpose the first time he should have stopped and had someone escort her out, instead he let her get away with it, which made her bolder.... until he snapped. A lot of so called punks think that because you pay a couple of bucks to see a band it entitles you to heap abuse on them, we all know that's bullshit and nobody should have to play under those circumstances, by the same token the only way I would fly out from behind my drums to beat someone would be if one of my fellow band members was being assaulted, not for spit or water or ice cubes or loud insults.

    Re: Ben Weasel punches girl!

Screeching Weasel frontman Ben Weasel devoted much of a nearly 50-minute South by Southwest performance to humor-laced ranting, railing often against the media and the yearly Austin, Texas, festival and conference. It's "a carnival of schadenfreude" Weasel said of SXSW, and repeatedly said he regretted coming. Yet the contentious atmosphere turned more aggressive by show's end, with Weasel ultimately jumping into the crowd, allegedly to confront a woman who had hit him in the face with ice.

Another woman, who security staff said was one of the venue's owners, ran on stage to break up the fight. Weasel was soon dragged off the stage by security. He left the venue before he could be tracked down by reporters, and has not yet returned a call requesting comment.

Police were called to Austin's Scoot Inn, and the venue's talent buyer, Rufas Raxlen, offered to give them Weasel's license plate number. The two women involved in the scuffle had left the premises, however, and therefore no police action was taken. The beloved punk rock band is currently scheduled to appear Saturday night in San Antonio, about 80 miles south of Austin.

During the band's performance of its poppy 1996 outsider anthem "Cool Kids," Weasel was hit in or near the eye with a chunk of ice thrown by a woman, and then offered to fight the offender.

Sound Opinions co-host and WBEZ blogger Jim DeRogatis was also in attendance, and in an effort to get as accurate a read as possible on how events escalated, this reporter and DeRogatis each talked to numerous secuirty personnel and several fans who were near the incident. After Weasel jumped into the crowd, several eye-witnesses reported that the woman spat beer or water in Weasel's face, and at that point a fight broke out.

Local resident Eric Garcia, 25, was also planning to see Screeching Weasel in San Antonio on Saturday. "It's like the Rolling Stones to us," Garcia said of Screeching Weasel, whose "First World Manifesto" is the band's first album of new material in 11 years (read The Times' review). Screeching Weasel has long been infamous for its refusal to tour, but of late the act has appeared more willing to go on the road.

Though the band had never broke through with mainstream success, Screeching Weasel remains an adored and influential act. Formed in the '80s and on-and-off since, Screeching Weasel presented a more suburban take on the urban, economical and melodic punk of the Ramones, and set the stage for the mid-'90s punk rock explosion. Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, for instance, has a tattoo of the logo of Screeching Weasel off-shoot the Riverdales.

"This is our Joey Ramone," Garcia said.

The performance was the band's first-ever SXSW appearance, and Weasel made no effort to hide his distaste for the five-day industry conference from the moment he walked on stage. Before even performing a song, Weasel complained that the band was being paid only $250 to appear at the Scoot Inn, and noted that the act had a $25,000 guarantee for its San Antonio performance.

Weasel then dedicated the 2000 song "You're the Enemy" to the organizers of SXSW, a tune full of bile toward fans and touring. Weasel next turned his attention to the media, and most of his words would not be fit for printing here, yet he labeled music journalists as "parasitic," and added, "Why don't you get a real job?"

Weasel spent almost as much time ranting as he did performing, and few targets were spared. Even the head of Screeching Weasel's label, Fat Mike of Fat Wreck Chords, was a part of Weasel's venom. "Our label owner isn't here," Weasel said. And he apologized for those who paid $20 to see his band, telling them they had been ripped off and were contributing to the industry spectacle of SXSW.

"Apparently it's really good for your career," Weasel mockingly said of SXSW.

Longtime Weasel fans, however, love the band as much for the music as the sarcastic diatribes of its lead vocalist. For the first half of the set, Weasel elicited laughter and applause, and his rants were seen more as jokes than actual hatred, at least those not pointed toward the music biz.

"I'm what they refer to in the industry as 'The Talent,'" Weasel sneered.

Frankly, I don't know what does that even mean ! :lmao:
I don't think so, the reality is : MOST of the women are weaker then MOST of the men, and I think reality isn't sexism. BUT if you try to insult somone by telling him he is as weak as women that would be sexism.

On the topic, we already had this kind of discussion on the forum, so I will just cut the long story short. I think men can hit women in certain situtations, although my opinion is that there's no need for fighting with hands, when god gave us tongues ! :ecouteurs:

    Re: Ben Weasel punches girl!

The only situation I've been where I was forced to hit a woman was at a show when my GF and this girl got into an argument. The girl and her three friends where trying to kick her ass but I Kept pushing them all back. Then They tried to get random guys to kick our ass but nobody would do it. Eventually I heard them talk about a knife and saw them passing around something to each other So they kept rushing at us while I push all of them back, I got sick of it and tossed them, took swing at one of them, and got the fuck out of there. I was right there pushing them back for about 30min :@ definitely ruined the show :ecouteurs:

I watched a couple different versions of that video yesterday. I read a couple of posts down before I started feeling some rage at what's being said here. Really, any of you saying anything to condone or make any excuses as to why Ben hit that girl is advocating violence against women. I can't believe anyone on this board is okay with that.

Also, this is not about what happened to you where you felt justified about 'jabbing' or 'pushing' a woman. This is about what happened in that video between the woman on stage who is the owner of the club that Ben was playing in and the girl in the audience.

Whatever. Nobody is advocating violence against anybody. Not once was violence advocated. This isn't the "He-Man Wimmin Haters Club", and I have yet to see anybody who isn't a troll try to pull that shit here. It was a question of equality and circumstance, and it was resolved. Don't go making false accusations on people. Shit's weak. Are you cool with women who think they can hit men because they can't hit back? Because that was my concern, and yes it was fucking relevant as I don't give a fuck about Screeching Weasel or any of their stupid fans, yet still had an interest in certain aspects related to the topic. I'm certainly not going out and buying Ben Weasel a fucking beer and high-fiving him,nor is anybody else, so stop trying to turn it into that.

    Re: Ben Weasel punches girl!

Where did I ever say it was okay for anyone to hit anyone else? You're not advocating violence against women? Sorry, but am I reading this wrong? It seems like you are pulling this off topic and justifying what Ben Weasel did by bringing up situational scenarios which did not occur in the video. Just because you had some personal situation where you felt justified hitting a woman that has nothing to do with this situation. You can talk about 'implying the weakness of women' or you can talk about reality which is that women are raped, hurt and killed every day by men in much larger numbers than men are assaulted by women. In reality a majority of women are not equal to a majority of men in strength. Regardless, in the above post it reads that you are standing up for Ben Weasel's actions by saying it's sexist for a man being provoked NOT to punch a woman.

The fact that you think I, as a female member of this board, would finger everyone in this thread to be on a "He-Man Wimmin Haters Club" seems pretty fucking sexist in itself. Ben had many other options at his disposal to deal with someone throwing things at him on stage and he picked the wrong one. The guy has anger issues which have been documented well before this incident. Also, everyone leaving the scene before police arrived isn't a resolve to this issue. A resolution would be that this guy goes back to an anger management program and that people stop booking his band.
