I'm currently editing a new monthly publication focussing on union & Indig. struggles in Aus and Latin America, I'll post the first issue when its done in the next couple of dayz.

I really need some help translating the last story about Mapuche. (see bottom for details)

This new publication is one expression of the ongoing work now being undertaken following the ‘Latin American, Australian & Asia-Pacific Solidarity Gathering’ that took place in Melbourne and Sydney in November 2010.

Under the constant violence, exploitation and marginalisation imposed by global capitalism, we see building effective means of communication and the production of our own media as one effective means of struggle. We aim to make our voices heard; to share our stories of struggle; to build international solidarity; to support all those under attack, underpaid, underfed and fed up with the systemic violence inherent in our everyday lives; and to work collaboratively towards achieving our goals of building free, dignified and just social relationships.

VANESA QUEIPUL ES DETENIDA Y TORTURADA POR CARABINEROS EN ESTE MOMENTO

Ercilla, territorio mapuche, 4 enero 2011.

Al mediodía de hoy martes fue detenida por policia chilena la joven mapuche Vanesa Queipul Paillaleo. Mientras se encontraban en el camino público cercano al fundo Poluco, colindante y reivindicado por la comunidad Ignacio Queipul, fueron perseguidos a balazos un grupo de jóvenes mapuche entre los que se encontraba la joven, que fue luego detenida. En estos momentos se encuentra prisionera en Carabineros de Collipulli y sometida a tortura sicológica y diversos apremios la joven Queipul, que es madre de una niña de 2 años que la espera en su casa. Cabe destacar que hasta el momento no se ha producido ningún enfrentamiento de los comuneros con la policía y que, de acuerdo a lo informado por estos, no existe ninguna justificación para el baleo y posterior detención. De acuerdo a lo informado por el werken del Lof Temucuicui Mijael Carbone, los hechos "ocurren mientras los jóvenes se dirigían a desarrollar tareas productivas en el sector, y son directa responsabilidad del capitán de carabineros a cargo de la zona, el que se caracteriza por su prepotencia y quien siempre esta provocando a los mapuche para que se generen situaciones graves que justifiquen la represión." Junto con condenar los hechos, el werken señaló que esta información es un téngase presente respecto de futuras situaciones de violencia policial. Los comuneros viajan en este momento al cuartel policial de Collipulli para intentar mediante el diálogo la liberación de la jóven prisionera mapuche que está siendo torturada.
