I dont know if there are any technology enhanced peoples on this board, but i have a problem and need help!!

My external hard drive crashed on me. (probably because i unplugged it without doing the "safe disconnect" feature on the computer.

Anyways when i plug it in another computer it reads that the hard drive is there but it needs to be formatted, and i had downloaded a program called "PC Inspector" which is supposed to find lost data, even after its been re-formatted. My problem is that i cant even reformat mine, it says it cannot be finished.

If anyone knows anything, or can send me links to software that might help, id truly appreciate it.

P.S. I fucking hate this digital technology age,i really do.

I had this problem with one of my external drives. 160GB of music, luckily I had it backed up on DVD.
I had to contact the supplier - Seagate
They ran me through several scenarios and possble fixes. Cold start, hot start, reformat. It didn't recognise the size of the drive.
Unfortunately, not one of them worked and had to dump the drive in the end
If you know the manufacturer of the drive, try and contact their help desk. They may be able to offer you a solution to recover the drive.

Got a bit of a language problem here, but first guess on a drive without access would be that the internal drive information is lost, but your files are still on it, so try to use a restoring program on the drive, I recommend

    TestDisk & PhotoRec , http://www.cgsecurity.org

This little wonder is easy to handle and restores almost everything without prior re-format.
IF YOU FORMAT THE DRIVE YOU WILL LOOSE EVERYTHING STILL STORED ON THE DISK!!!

    good luck!

if the HD is dead then theres nothing to do unless you want to pay $3000 for data recorvery.

I lost my music collection 2 times because of crashing HDD, and a few months ago i lost over 500GB of movies..

Always remember : BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP !!!

Try posting on a Tech help forum and possibly Google the problem. You could even resort to thepiratebay.org for some recovery tools.
