    Downfall :

Downfall was a ska and punk band from the Bay Area formed by Tim Armstrong, Matt Freeman, Dave Mello, Pat Mello, and Jason Hammon following the break-up of Operation Ivy in 1989 and pre-dating Armstrong's and Freeman's wider recognition in Rancid. They performed three shows, one at Gilman, over a period of three months.

    Line-up:
    • Tim Armstrong - Vocals
    • Matt Freeman - Bass
    • Dave Mello - Drums
    • Pat Mello - Guitar
    • Jason Hammon - Guitar

    Releases:
The only official Downfall releases were the songs "North Berkeley" on the "Can of Pork" compilation on Lookout! Records, "New Regulations" on the "Very Small World" compilation on Very Small Records, and "Long Way to Go" on the "They Don't Get Paid, They Don't Get Laid, But Boy Do They Work Hard!" compilation LP on Maximum RocknRoll. Rumors of a CD release called "Get Ready for Action" have been circulating for years, and it's uncertain whether that will ever happen. Low quality recordings of the songs are available, hard to track down, and extremely well-received by Operation Ivy fans who have heard them.

    Songs:
    • North Berkeley
    • As One
    • Step in Line
    • Hard Life
    • Destruction
    • Going Down
    • New Regulations
    • The Storm
    • Blank Generation
    • My City
    • Long Way To Go
    • My City (version)

***Not strictly speaking "Anarcho punk", but a piece of history none-the-less....

    ENJOY!

    Downfall Biography

Downfall was a ska and punk band from the Bay Area formed by [a=Tim Armstrong], [a=Matt Freeman (2)], [a=Dave Mello], [a=Pat Mello], and [a=Jason Hammon] following the break-up of [a=Operation Ivy] in 1989 and pre-dating Armstrong's and Freeman's wider recognition in [a=Rancid]. They performed at least seven shows over a period of three months; playing at Robert Eggplant's house, the Dementia Hauz, Berkeley Square, and 924 Gilman Street.

Downfall's debut album, Get Ready For Action, was originally going to be released on Very Small Records in 1989 before being postponed. In 1994, Tim and Matt were planning to release it as a 10" on Zafio records and as CD and cassette on Lookout, with Tim going so far as to re-record alternate vocals for lines that he had since re-used in Rancid songs. However, Tim found himself too busy with Rancid and could no longer spend any more time working on the Downfall release.

When researching band names at the time of the bands formation in '93, they could only find reference to two other bands called Downfall on what there was of an internet back then. Both bands had long since split and neither appeared to have any official releases. One of these was the short lived Californian punk band (ex-operation ivy) who went on to form Rancid. see #1 and the other was a Canadian metal band (who later reformed in 2007). Figuring the name was dead and therefore open game, the band members decided to use it!

Downfall self-released a handful of e.p.'s over the years and several of their songs charted highly in the metal charts of various mp3 sites (including the original mp3.com, soundclick and garageband) . Downfall also supported the likes of Napalm Death, Dry Kill Logic, The Berzerker, Stampin' Ground and Cloven Hoof (plus many other notable underground metal bands!).
Downfall was finally laid to rest in June 2009 after the band formed a side-project called Kinasis, which eventually superceded and ultimately ended Downfall.
