After Sex Pistols announced they would sale figurines and perfume last year and now the phenomenon is even touching the anarcho-punk scene...

DOA and Dead Kennedys just released stupid figurines and they are selling them for $20 each... The company is also selling figurines of many other famous punks like Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone, GG Allin, etc

Really strange this one. Biafra doesn't really surprise me because there has always been the kooky-gimmick thing with him. Shithead, however...not sure what he's playing at.

"Step right up folks, it's anarchy for sale!"

I bought one a year ago without thinking how corporate and how sellout it was for them to have a bobblehead.
And MADE IN CHINA TOO! Well, dont know what to do with it now.

Considering that the figurine of Jello Biafra uses lifted speech material as an advertising, there's no mention of him being complicit or involved in the project, there's no use of his actual image and the figurine is based on an '80s likeness (and uses his stage name, not his birth name, which is probably legal without the person's permission), I'm gonna go right ahead and guess Eric wasn't involved. I'm sure if he was, the sight would have some indication...

Nah that's not legal trust me. That's like saying i can sell Madona merch without paying copyrights.

I'm sure everything on this website has been produced with the person's authorisation. They are selling merch by big bands like Ramones who are backed up by big companies defending their copyrights... They wouldn't risk selling illegal stuff and getting sues..

Also, on the figurine Jello Biafra is wearing an Alternative Tentacles t-shirts, which leads me to believe the bobblehead was also produced with Jello Biafra's label's authorisation.

Note that DOA is also on Alternative Tentacles...

After investigation, looks like this ridiculous website is owned by this businessman :

    http://www.clintweiler.com/

he's a publicist expert in "consumer marketting and public relations" and owns a couple of other similar business...

Hmmm... I guess I don't want to believe that he could be complicit in this.

They also have Holiday In Cambodia Christmas jumpers for sale. I slagged off East Bay Ray on his facebook and he got really defensive then told me Biafra did it. I emailed Biafra and asked him if it was true and he said it wasn't, and requested all the screenshots of my correspondence with Ray.

Who knows. Dead Kennedys and Crass are pretty much dead to me. It doesn't feel the same when I listen to them these days.

    Can't even say I'm shocked.
They can commodify once great bands, but they can never commodify the true spirit of punk and counterculture.
It's like trying to bottle mist. Once you get it in the bottle, it has evaporated.
    Take care, all. Stay real.
