As I sit here listening to Hiatus- Equality Conception Of Life,
I wonder why it is so hard to connect w/ musicians in LA County/Shit$tates.
Doomy aside- I tuned to drop A last nite & I have been happily playing by myself all day.
Please share how you make different analog noises.
I have 2 fingers, distortion & primarily play mi 4 string ( but sometimez I get bored and play mi 6 stringz).

Sometimes, when I'm feeling not so creative (or extra creative, I guess it depends on your point of view), I like to play with the non-traditional sounds a guitar can make. Stuff like bending the strings off the fretboard, scratching with a pick, using a lighter to hit the super high notes, that sorta thing. It's not very useful because ultimately it'd be tough to reproduce in a live show environment, but it's fun! All of those sound great with distortion btw!

    feel all that.
I pick up my 6 string for that.
What does a sound gate pedal does?
I am wondering if I want/need but bassists primarily use fuzz pedals - mee3wwwIMO

They're primarily used for cutting out the 60-cycle hum from single-coil or high-gain pickups, I find that it's usually not necessary on bass (especially for punk, we like noise lol).

You certainly can use one, but it's not an effect so much as it is a sound cleaner. I mostly use it on guitar to cut the annoying buzz that happens when I'm not actively playing notes, like most things it's a matter of preference.

I am guessing - a noise gate could be one way to control/amplify feedback

I think it'd kill feedback, there's gotta be a bit of noise for the feedback loop to start, and the noise gate would kill everything below a certain decibel target.

To me distortion\feedback\overdrive are kind of all tha same adjectives....kind of like the word punk is diluted by all the schism genres. Tu

that said...you way out of my understanding of guitar pedals....I have alwayz navigated to the bass,
I was also guessing a noise gate was like an and/or transistor.
That said, I am not an enginner/salary. Im a tech.
Tonite I was playing with a kat that had a super small snare drum....supa fun.

Ah, I was thinking about the high-pitched squealing sound as feedback, that's what a noise gate would kill. Distortion/fuzz/overdrive would be fine.

Haha, I do both as a currently solo artist, and the process of making a whole album from scratch really opened my eyes to a lot of technical stuff, probably some of which I still do "wrong", because my setup isn't anywhere near what someone would call "professional" so I can't hear what my stuff sounds like on other platforms. For instance, I got my stuff onto Spotify at the request of a friend, and my sister played it in the car for me, it was super soft. I can't tell if that's a problem on my end or theirs, but I have to guess that it's mine because plenty of other people's music on that platform sound fine. I'll have to figure that out at some point lol

Awesome! Bet that drum sounded super snappy

I'll have to figure that out at some point lol......I have an older bassman rig that I strap a mic on. That said, I usually end up with noize files that are too soft or too distorted cuz my fingers start rocking the strings too much- all that even after i hit NORMALIZE- :'D. . I would like my own personal guitar, sound tech/ henchman......but until I am signed with Capital Records I rely on mi amigoz.

I am fighting to be able to caveman the bass strings without distorting the output with slaps.....though that is always a happy fight.

You might try compression, if you're working with a DAW, I found more than a few free ones. Set the ratio to 8:1, lower the input but match it with output, and usually you're good to slam that thang lol

Yeah! All from my living room, on my Arch setup. I don't play drums, so I used Hydrogen to make my drum tracks. That's actually gonna be a sticking point for my next one, the drum tracks I wanna do would be waaay complicated for Hydrogen, but not so bad for a real drummer, so I think I'm gonna try to form/join an actual band. Just gotta find a few like-minded North Texans!

Maybe u can help me with this one. I can't get my mic into audacity :@
My desktop only has 1 - 3.5 output jack and I want to get a 3.5m wireless dongle input so, in way that will allow audacity 3.7 to recognize .

And Texas too hot , IMO :redblack:

Probably need an audio interface, if you've got no input jack. I've got a Presonus Audiobox USB 96, I've seen similar stuff used online for like $40-$50. Pipewire recognized it instantly, just needed pavucontrol for some extra audio profiles, and it works perfectly in Ardour and Tenacity (Audacity fork, after it was compromised).

I wouldn't trust any wireless stuff, they're prone to latency issues that simply can't be solved. Bluetooth especially, but even the older wireless sets have a latency problem simply because moving signals through the air isn't as efficient as a wire. So, trying to lay down any tracks after your first will be damn near impossible, hearing the first track and what you're trying to record play out-of-sync with each other. I'd go with the interface and a set of headphones with a 1/4" jack (or 1/4" adapter for 3.5mm)

Yeah, Texas is hot, but I've lived here my whole life, so I'm used to it!
