I never understood how crust pants work... are they salved, patched up shredded pants or are they literally just made out of patches.

    excuse my stupid.

They are patched up. Ideally they should be held together by patches and grime! Never ever wash them and wear them every day :D
Btw, I love your "disturbed" shirt. Did you make that?

Seriously, I haven't worn a different pair of pants in like a year.

Yeah! So I am guessing you checked out my website.
I didn't make the shirt logo, but I did cut it up. I thrift/find/acquire all my clothing and then modify them.
That Disturbed shirt was one of the shirts I was selling at an art market in the Yukon. I don't listen to them, but I was hoping someone who did would appreciate what I did with the shirt. I haven't sold it yet : P

I just started a road trip back to Ontario, so I figure my clothes will get really crusty REALLY fast. So far, I'm on day 4.

Nice! That's what I do with quite a lot of my clothing. I haven't made a business out of it, but it's loads of fun to stencil, cut, tye, hem, and patch clothes. Second hand stores are lovely, yes?

I don't know if I'd call it a business... More like an idea that I want to tell more people about. o_O

What I do is different all the time. It's taking junk/trash/ugly shit and making it better. For the sake of fashion? Why not but, mainly because it's better for the environment and FUCK CORPRATES TELLING YOU WHATS WORTH BUYING... Or throwing away.
I look at the worthiness of things differently.
Cutting up/dying/sewing up shirts is wicked-- I've been doing it for years, but it's just one aspect. I mean, everything we need to live exists already. We don't REALlY need to make new things out of raw materials.

Thrift stores are my favourite but even better are donations from friends or the "free store", pretty much a landfill in the Yukon that has a store-like section where people put their "I don't want this, but it's still brand new" things. I've gotten food there, clothing, kitchen wares and even some wicked CDs.
It's incredible, I wish that existed where I live now.

    Very cool, Ariseto.
Your words inspire me to delve into my own crafts more deeply.
I wonder if we have one of those "free stores" you speak of around here, haha. I'll ask around.

Because patched up pants with band names on them are associated with the crust punk subculture, therefore, "crust pants". It's not a stretch.
