    Hey there,

    What to say?
32 years old, a teacher, I've been into punk / metal / batcave since I was 11 so I love lot of old-school stuff like DK, Crass...
I'm living in French Brittany where there are loads of punk gigs, love going to them and moshing around.
I think France is becoming more & more of a fascist capitalist state and no one gives a shit anymore.
    I'm a feminist. I'm bisexual. I'm also vegan.

    See ya

    No

Welcome. It's a shame France is becoming a fascist capatalist state. I have spent close to six months in France (on and off) and people always seemed passionate about their beliefs

I'm already there thanks :) I also joined the resistance boards.

People are quite passionate about politics and ideas but now they all seem to think that global capitalism is the only option... Individualism is getting stronger & stronger but not in a positive way. It's individualism that means "I don't give a shit about the political situation as long as I make profits / don't get fired" individualist bullshit.
Brainwash is on sale and every politician (left, right, center, whatever) has huge stocks of it.

From what I've heard (biased U.S. point of view) the French have big political changes very often. (kings, emperors, dictators, presidents in the last 200 years.) Of course, in The U.S. Arizona doesn't give a care to the constitution any more. (If you're a teacher, you better support the Confederacy, the NRA, be a God-fearing evangelical, and not have a Spanish accent.)

Funny how different it is here, in France most teachers are left-winged, atheists and some are even anarchists!

Concerning the religious symbols: they are not to be disclosed in places like schools b/c in France you are supposed to keep your religion to yourself, it's a private thing but it can't become a public subject. That's why civil servants etc... cannot disclose openly their religion and in state schools you don't talk about religion. You can show your religion in the streets etc...

The burqa is another problem b/c it conceals the whole body so it is now illegal to have the face completely hidden (unless you're wearing a bike helmet etc...) which makes the burqa illegal. People are very passionate about the burqa b/c many women are being oppressed in Muslim communities, but there is also freedom of speech in France, and the right to wear the clothes you want is considered as being part of this freedom of speech.
It's a complicated subject... sorry if I'm not clear.
