Well to point out some things that are a bit on the other side of realism. Kicking just above the knee will not destroy your knee, if this were true most K-1 fighters would be cripples and as you live in Holland you can go and see for yourself that most K-1 veterans aren't in wheelchairs. I'm not saying this is impossible as low kicks can really hurt you and even disable an opponent, it just takes a tremendous amount of force to do it, and really isn't something I would tech people to go for.

If you want to really disable somebody trying to bite you your best bet would be to take the back and then apply some joint lock that does not require exposing yourself to the bite like boston crab or hammerlock. And being able to do this i.e. break somebody's joint takes serious training, I've seen more than once people just using common sense to get out of bad submission attempts. Also trips and foot sweeps would be very useful...

You're right most of the info you have given has been pretty decent. Just think you misunderstood my suggestion for a martial art that focuses on throws. These techniques are best used for defense as most attacks will not be useful against a zombie. An emphasis on breaking grapples is crucial. JKD is actually a pretty good choice as well as this form is pretty reactive and fairly defensive by nature.

Point taken, never looked at it this way. Just heard it from my sensei (who proposed using a front kick or side kick rather than a low-kick, mind you) and assumed he knew what he was talking about.
However I actually disagree with the joint lock thing, enough force applied to a joint WILL break it (not necessarily destroy, but incapacitate nonetheless). Destruction in my eyes is a step beyond breaking. Broken bones are relatively easy to come by using the method I described (a point of fixation and a point of impact/force), however I do grant that the force needed is greater than what most people can muster if they don't know how to apply force properly.
If we then place it back into context however, I'd try to stay away from the zombies immediate vicinity anyway (i.e. grappling distance) as any bodily fluid can basically transmit the condition... Nasty thoughts just came up... Zombie-gang-rape.... ugh...

    Thanks :)
Anyway, yeah must've misunderstood. However I stick to my original point that I wouldn't want to go up close and personal with a zombie anyway. Unless I had a knife and was covered head to toe to limit my exposure optimally.

I can't believe nobody mentioned explosives here. You can make lots of explosives from easily salvageable materials, that are probably way easier to get than guns in most of the countries.

I'd make a good base of operations (something elevated with good view, and hard access). I'd make sure to salvage plenty of food and water, ammunition, and electronic appliances (in that order of importance). If zombies would gang-up in front of my (heavily barricaded) door, I'd blast them with home-made explosives. And for salvage runs, I'd bring 2-3 grenades with short fuses, any firearm I could get my hand on (semiautomatic rifle preferred), and some sort of stick to beat them in case they still get close (I doubt I would know to use anything else effectively).

So after a while, I would probably have a large stock of food and ammo, and whole area cleared. I would plant some crops then, so that I am still well fed when even the canned food gets bad. Then I'd get a car, and go looking for other survivors.

Me neither. It's good idea to know how to get away if one does happen to get a hold of you.
There are good reasons. First they would be fairly ineffective against zombies. Shrapnel is the main killer for the living, the undead won't notcie. You might get lucky and get a head shot but it's not reliable. Second, if you do obliterate one now you have a nice blood mist.

That said, explosives are a double-edged sword. They do NOT make a distinction between friend or foe, like you can do with 'aimed' weapons. Claymore-like mines are somewhat of an exception, though still pretty 'unreliable' in the accuracy department.
Furthermore the blood mist would make it hard to get through an area. Also most anti-personnel-explosives that are used by the military these days seem to be designed to maim, cripple or injure enemy soldiers, 'cause that slows them down MORE than killing enemy soldiers.

I didn't say I would use fragmentation explosives. I was thinking of explosives that would relay on blast power. And I would only be using them on large gangs of zombies. I believe that (for example) blowing up a canister of gas could take out a nice number of zombies, and it is way more common than any firearm. As for the blood mist, I haven't heard of it before, what's a blood mist anyway?

It is what happens when someone is hit with high explosives. The bodies parts are obiterated spraying a fine mist of blood in the air. Watch this. http://www.megavideo.com/?v=YU28KBWY At about 28:00 or so is a good example. Even the doctor says "We are probably inhaling pig right now." Now if this is infected blood you are in trouble.

One of my favorite senerios, "the Zombie apocalypse".

    As far as weapons go...

Assuming I could only get my hands on a semi-auto assualt rifle (due to the ban on fully-autos in the states)
I'd go with a Ar-15 (maybe the hello kitty one for comedic value if I could find one)

If I could get my hands on a fully auto assualt rifle...
Than I'd go with an Ak of coarse, dependabitlity and realiability, though loud and mostly designed to be a machine gun rather than rifle, hince why I stated the Ar-15 option above, if no fully auto ak is avaible.

Any, fold out stock, 12 gauge, shot gun (prefrably a mossburgh, but any will do)

If I could get my hands on a fully auto tec 9 or uzi that would be my pistol/secondary weapon

If not that than a hand cannon (slag for mangnum, ethier 357 or 45) peferabley revolver style.

And If all the hand cannons are gone than I'd have to go with 9mm glock.

For melee weapons a crowbar, axe, fold out shovel, or machete (I already have these lying around my home, and best of all they are multi-purpose)

Pelnty of supplies (ie. food lots, first aid, ammo lots, durable and bite resistant clothes perferred, stuff for entertainment, and lastly barricade supplies)

The issue is not whether a sharp blade can cut through zombies. It is whether that blade will stay sharp. In ideal circumstances, with enough down time to perform the maintenance you describe, a blade seems pretty useful. But my suggestion of a slegehammer is for its constant reliable functioning in combat, and its general utility. Regarding physics, of course a sledgehammer is supposed to stop upon impact. In doing so, it transmits its kinetic energy to the object struck (say, zombie skull) resulting in... splurt.

I believe we have butcher to blame, however, for several serious oversights in this thread. This focus on weaponry is worthwhile, but far too narrow a focus. Let me propose the following questions, to contrast with butcher's armory-intensive inquiry.

    1. How can one secure supplies of food, water, and medical supplies in a post-apocalyptic world? If the disaster is extreme enough, one can expect that there will be plentiful "leftovers" from civilisation. Do we conduct raids and stay on the move, or, a la "Dawn of the Dead," capture supermarkets for our bases and live off the spoils?

    2. What are the proper protocol for cooperation after the apocalypse? With the risk of raiders (see again Dawn of the Dead), how can you ensure security while deriving strength from numbers?

    3. How are social relationships reconfigured by the Zombie apocalypse? Diary of the Dead, the new Dawn of the Dead, and other films show that the police and the military retain their authority post-apocalypse. Can the zombie apocalypse be an opportunity to confront these relationships of domination? Can we do it if the military still have their guns? How? Direct confrontation may be a possibility (disrupted logistics, short supplies, ultra-high casualties etc weaken the powers of the state) but it is hardly economical.

    4. Can we speak of a new society emerging after the apocalypse? How would we build it in an egalitarian manner?

I did ask the question: Shaun of the Dead. Shit or not?
This has been overlooked constantly. Why is the Left silent on this issue?
I feel this is a serious oversight on behalf of my fellow Anarcho-Punk.net users.

    Moreover, I feel yr question:
ignores basic truths of revolutionary organising. It is not for us, as the rank-and-file, to make such assessments. Surely it is the role of our vanguard, the bourgeois intelligentsia, to outline the correct revolutionary behaviour to engage in during a zombie apocalypse. i feel it necessary to sit by anxiously for Mick Armstrong to issue a directive. Up to that point any speculation on potential actions are little more than counter-revolutionary speculation.

    This thread is hilarious lol...

Maybe we should talk about a post nuclear apocalypse situation or something, this is still more likely than a zombie apocalypse :p

Don't think like that! You will be one of those people that will die first! You must prepare yourself in order to survive any zombie apocalypse. "Oh that's a nice zombie costume you got there" *bite*

You are now a zombie. Seriously ungovernable, you are living in a world filled with lies from the government! They have secretly been working on and implementing viruses that will carry out this zombie disaster, I have seen the lab myself! They were transmitting the virus through TV, they have worked out how to turn people into zombies through televisions for crying out loud! This is happening all over the world. I managed to capture the name of the channel before I left the lab, I will tell you so you can prevent anything bad happening to yourself. The channel was named MTV.

your reading of history, in this matter, is severely limited. I suggest you revisit yr Hegel, Marx or Fukuyama.
Following Fukuyama's End of History, a zombie apocalypse is the inevitable outcome of a sole global superpower, read: US hegemonic power. Realism dictates that, in the absence of a global balance of power like the US/USSR axis, a state of 'anarchy' [interpreted as chaos] will exist between nation-states. Whilst yr bourgeois-run educational institution may tell you this should be interpreted as a matter of geo-politics, Fukuyama actually intended this text to be interpreted more theologically. I understand Hegel's conception of one-directional history to point directly to the inevitability of a zombie apocalypse, as earlier outlined in Revelations. I am thus organising myself appropriately, and in the spirit of comradeship, i highly suggest you do the same.

Not going to talk shit as I know you guys are having fun at this but there are other topics on here that have some importance that get largely ignored and it is sad to see almost 3 full pages of 'fantasy' when there are threads like this: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4305&start=0 .....just sayin' :ecouteurs:
