i like the idea. but where would the land come from? if bought in the united states there's still laws here that prevent us from making our own rules.
i agree though that it would be nice to have a safe haven.

In sweden there are lots of unpopulated areas so that's good, also lots of empty houses in small villages and some abbandoned villages, but we also have cold winters, a rightwing government, and lots of snitches. I vote for Holland.

The great thing is you actually could get here from boat, just sail up the gulf of mexico, up the Mississippi River, up the Turkey River, up the Volga River and you are a block away! And I think a green house would be possible to grow "plants".

Oh and as for laws... yes the US has a lot of bullshit laws, but this town has no cops (the sheriff passes through occasionally), and if we had enough people we could actually be a large enough majority in town hall meetings to not have to worry about city laws. Pretty much as long as you treat your neighbors with kindness and respect (even if you disagree with their opinions, they will treat you the same. It is totally different than living in the city.

i think the closest thing to this idea would be burning man. but without all the hippies.
what town are you talking about? Iowa?
one other thing i thought about is it would work but there are some greedy ass people out there that would ruin it.

The town is called Wadena, it is a very small town more like a village in Northeast Iowa, not very far from the Mississippi River.

I agree with the greedy ass people, they tend to ruin it for everyone, and it always seems like there are some in every group.

And as far as Hippies go, I think there were some that were very true to their ideas, and those are the ones who didn't sell-out and become yuppies. For the most part though I believe hippies were communist and socialist though, not anarchist, and any form of government is too much government in my opinion.

So if i just make it across the atlantic everything will be fine! :)
Town hall meetings, just like in the movies! But anarchists taking over the meeting and then instead of drinking coffee in the cosy little town café, we drink homemade beer out of buckets! There will of cos be producers wanting to make movies about us, so then it will be exactly like in the movies... I think i lost my thred there somewhere, but it's funny at least in my head and after a couple of beers.

lol i like the homemade beer out of buckets! i'll take ten to go. heh heh.

and for hippies. yea never thought they were anarchist. just them and i never really got along. true hippies i mean. the few i've meant had some interesting arguments until the acid kicked in. then it was like talking to a brick wall.

I looove Christiania! Went there for the first, but hopefully not last, time during COP15. It was amazing. Too sad it's so hard to get to live there, I have never felt more like home anywhere else. Such contrast from my teeny projects appartment.

yeah I think that drugs really ruined the whole hippie movement. I think that the government helped to pump drugs into the movement. It seems like most modern hippies are just posuers who use it as an excuse to be burnouts.

It does! There's a lot of talk about it shutting down soon, but it's been that way since the beginning. The danish politicians always wants to close it but the people wants to keep it. Mostly when people hear Christiania they think 'drugs' but there's so much more to it. Yes, people do smoke, and sell, weed openly but no hard drugs. It's also a community where people live, grow food ecologically and do a lot of environmental work. For example they use rainwater for toilets and washing and there are no cars in that part of Copenhagen.

i have been talking to my wife the last couple of months about buying a few acres outside the city where we can build a house/garden /windmills with all the alternators i have stacked in my garage/brew beer and build a bad ass covered stage for a yearly fest! though occupation would be much more desireable- i do not think my wife and i (ALONE) could not pull it off without \purchasing/ land.

another thought=so how do the amish (here in the states) have control over their lands where the police cannot enter and intimidate? atleast, thats what i have heard.

The Amish around here are pretty nice and peaceful... unless you are a child growing up in the Amish community, it is a regular practice to beat their children into submission when they misbehave. But I think that they have the freedom they do because of their religion, and it is protected under the constitution.
