getting ready to start a couple dreads tonite-dont have any beeswax, feel like going out nor want to spend cash if i dont need to. does anyone have actual knowledge of a usable substitute?
I definitely do not suggest you use wax.... it makes dreads wayyy to slippery. If anything go two weeks at least before applying it.
No wax at all is by far the best! Backcomb, mat and crochet them. Crochet often with a small pin and the first months sleep with pantyhoses on your hed (looks rediculous but works) for em not to untrassle too much. Don't wash em too often but sometimes, especially in the beginning, use some oil (only very little, special dredoil or for example patchoulioil and water) when you circle them. You probably know this but when you wash, never use shampoo. The best experiences I've had with hot water, salt and lemon. Good luck!
I use this same exact method minus the pantyhose. I used a black lady hair wrap for a while but then transitioned to a satin pillow case. it works wonders.
Yes, satin pillow cases do work nicely, didn't really want to write that as an alternative here since it doesn't seem very punk I don't personally have one of those but have tried it... I have stopped wearing the pantyhoses and sometimes just put all the dreds up on the head with a hairband when I don't want to crochet so much. Oh, and about pantyhose... Pretty much everyone I know that have used that, me included, have gotten quite comfortable wearing them and so they have stayed on for days in a row when not having to go anywhere. If the doorbell rings how ever... Well, let's just say the ground keeper that came here to change my locks looked very surprised but said nothing, and worked very quickly to get out of here!
Yes im so mean i make the devil cry too bad i didnt see that flier sooner, escondido is about 45 mins away... and $3 for a show? that is refreshing, i havent been to a show in forever, but they were usually like $10 or so
