Now, for the record, I'm Jewish. I'm also an anti-Zionist which I view as a form of fascism. I was brought up as a secular but a profoundly Zionist Jew. The invasion of Lebanon, and in particular the massacres of Palestinian refugee's at the camps of Sabraa and Chatila in 1982 [which occurred on my 20th birthday] made me question, and then ultimately ditch [after the failure/sabotage of the Peace Accords in 1996], the Zionism I was indoctrinated with.

I support the struggle of the Palestinian people, including their right to armed resistance against their occupiers within the bounds of the international law of armed conflict. I practice BDS against the state of Israel by not buying Israeli goods [like Sodastream] or services and have made sure that my compulsory superannuation is not invested in Israeli companies. From where I sit, the Israeli state and the ideology of Zionism have nothing to do with Judaism, and are fair game for political critique and activism. Israel is an apartheid state. I threw out my extensive Nick Cave collection, worth many 100's of $$$, after he played in Israel, despite appeals for him not to do so. Musician's playing in Israel are akin to those who played at Sun City during the struggle against apartheid in South Africa back in the day.

Herr Trump in his "wisdom" has signed an executive order that conflates criticism of Israel and Zionism. which are political concepts, with anti-Semitism which is a racist concept. He has done this largely to satisfy his Christian-Zionist base [here's looking at you Bob Dylan] who actually HATE Jews, wanting to convert us to Christianity and who covet the Holy Land's for themselves pending the second coming of their "white" Jesus. They are totally whacked. The new definition of anti-Semitism pushed by Trump is a weapon that enables lawfare against critics of Israel/Zionism like myself in the US. What happens over there, soon follows here in oz, where I live. We also have a strong Zionist lobby and an evangelical prime minister [who btw is pushing a religious freedom law that allows discrimination by primarily Christians against those who do not share those beliefs in an invisible sky father].

Trump's new executive order promotes white supremacy

Even the author of the much disputed definition of anti-Semitism disagrees with this executive order.

I drafted the definition of antisemitism. Rightwing Jews are weaponizing it | Kenneth Stern

Your free speech has just been restricted by a flick of Trump's wrist.

It's always been in the U.S. best interest to support Israel and Zionism, and those who openly criticize it are either labeled nazis, nazis sympathizers, or, if they're jewish, self hating jews.

A lot of people don't know what to do when I tell them that I'm Jewish, and Israel DOESN'T speak for me.

You know that PIL played Israel, don't you?

Aw shit. I didn't know that. That's them for the bin.

I've had the same reaction when I say I'm Jewish and anti-Zionist. I remember having a huge argument with a random in the folk scene about Dylan's Infidels album over just that point. I told him not all Jews are Zionist and not all Zionists are Jews. He couldn't grasp it. I might be self-hating at times, but it's not because I'm Jewish. Rather it's my parents voices in my head that told me what a worthless sack of shit I was, after I internalised it.

As far as parents' voices in one's head, I know how that goes. It's one of the main reasons why I'm not a rich and famous rock and roll star, among other things.

What really winds people up is when somebody makes an anti Jewish remark, and the second party accuses the first of anti-semitism, I point out that not all Jews are Semites, and not all Semites are Jews. It seems to wind everybody up.
