Hello, I'm currently doing a study into the artwork of Punk artists. Jamie Reid's work has become a very significant artist in my investigation. I visited the Strongroom where his work is up on display. I felt the Anarchic energy radiating from the walls. Obviously, the 'God save the Queen' piece is one of his most recognizable pieces and I was wondering the impact it still has on people identifying as Punk today. What do you think of it? What thoughts does it provoke?

    Appreciate any replies
    Thank you

Back when the artwork first appeared on t-shirts, record sleeves, and adverts in the music papers when the single came out caused an uproar. I think people were even ARRESTED for wearing the shirt for a year or two, the reason being that the design/article of clothing was a "Breach of the peace" violation.

Nowadays, if I see somebody of my generation wear the shirt, I just think they were there back in the day, and when the new generation wears it, it just means they just discovered punk.

It's still relevant to those of us living in the Commonwealth. The sooner she is six feet under and the bloody house of windsor collapses under the weight of its own bullshit the better. Then we can finally be a republic instead of having a queen/king of oz. The fawning of lickspittles towards those inbred bastards whenever they visit our shores is risible and the cost of protecting them is obscene.

I was part of a six gun salute for liz and phil the greek. We had to travel 400km to get to the ceremony. We then had to make sure our brass was shining, our lanyards were pristine and that we had a mirror finish on our boots. The weather was lousy [torrential rain and bitterly cold] and we travelled in open trucks in full dress uniform sitting at attention. They arrived at one end of the runway, we had set up with the howitzers at the other end in the mud. We had to do kneeling gun drill i.e. at attention, in the mud. We fired three blanks so as her majesty could hear the bang. That took all of a minute. She couldn't even see us from where she was. We returned to barracks, freezing and looking like drowned rats. All the spit and polish was gone. Then we had to clean the howitzers with fire hoses in the rain before we could get dry and changed into our greens. It was a complete waste of time, money and effort. I never volunteered for anything after that.

Same goes for politicians. Even the cops here have complained about the level of protection the pollies are demanding cause their shitty policies are really pissing people off. Even egging or milkshaking them is classed as assault. One guy is in court for having a sign calling a politician a mongrel dog. Their preciousness knows no bounds. And to think they call us snowflakes!

You should see how they scramble to clear the highways anytime the president visits a city.

I have when Dubya and Obomber came on state visits. I was living in Canberra and they locked down half the city from the airport to parliament house including one of only two bridges that span the lake in between. I worked for a government department [audit] as a courier, a lowly grade 2. I had regular drop offs in the parliamentary triangle where all the heavy hitting government agencies were located and getting around on those days was a major pain in the rectum. The traffic congestion was unbelievable. So was the security, cops were everywhere, SAS types were in zodiacs on the lake and F-18's were flying around. It was paranoia plus. And we don't even have firearms freely available here unlike your neck of the woods. it was well out of proportion to visits by other visits by heads of states, except those windsor scumbags.
