I mostly read swedish undergroundish comics, way into Galago and some of the artists there. Some have been published in english so some of you might have read for example the 120 days of Simon, by Simon Gärdenfors. Amongst the internationally more known artists that i really like are of cause Robert Crumb, and no one can deny the greatness of Stan the man. Every once in a while, i can enjoy a good old superheroe, Conan is so cliché and yet so fascinating! Old western comics have a certain something too, and horrorcomics from all times... There are so much good stuff out there, so hard to name a few favourites... i have an old issue, from '87 i think it is, of Dracula. Everything about it is so tacky, the coloring is way off and the lines are cheezyer than any i've ever seen anywhere else. Can't help but love it.

I LOVE comics, although I haven't been indulging myself as of late. I was a Marvel kid, primarily into X-Men and Spider-Man, but I loved the whole Marvel Universe. I really wasn't that into DC with the exception of Batman, although I did enjoy the Death of Superman arc, and Kingdom Come. I used to read DC's Star Trek comic series which was pretty good. I love Allen Moore, Watchmen and V for Vendetta, ep., but also Promethea, Swamp Thing,..just about everything. The guy has the Midas touch. Neil Gaiman's a genius, esp. The Sandman. I also really love some of the Image comics, esp. The Maxx (They FINALLY released the tv series on dvd!), also Spawn, Pitt, and Savage Dragon. I love the Ninja Turtles comics, both the original, darker Mirage series, and the Archie Comics series. I also dig the Invisibles, Sin City, The Tick, Usagi Yojimbo, and I LOVE the old Hellraiser comics. So,....yeah. I love comics.

Man I can't believe i never saw this thread. I LOVE COMICS!

I have a two part "Detective Comics" story where Batman battles a villain named "Anarky" (who's supposed to be an anarchist)which I find amusing. Check it out for fun.
Suprisingly Batman says he agrees with Anarky's ideals but states that he is hurting people and must be stopped haha.

I read all comics: Marvel, Dc, and a bunch of others ranging from Image/Spawn to Milk and Cheese and The Crow. Manga too.

I'm a big comic book nerd. Some of my favs:
    Y the Last Man
    Howard the Duck
    Lost Girls
    The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Alan Moore's Run on Swamp Thing
    Transmetropolitian
    Preacher

Also, I'm surprised to see no love for Grant Morrison yet. If you like comics but haven't read him yet, add these to the top of your too read pile:
    Animal Man
    The Invisibiles
    The Filth
    We3

I'm a massive comic fan. I mostly read comics by Marvel like X-Men, Captain America etc. I quite enjoy some more indie comic titles like The Walking Dead and Tank Girl though. I recently read through the entirety of the recent X-Factor run by Peter David which is about a mutant detective agency set in Marvel's New York City solving mysteries in a X-Files style. Pretty interesting and funny.

I don't really follow comic books much, but my brother's a huge fan, so he's been pushing a few on me lately. I'm really enjoying Chew (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chew_(comics)), and I just finished Crossed, which is absolutely disgusting at some points, but a really good read. It follows what is essentially a zombie-survival comic, but instead of zombies, the people are infected with a virus that makes them act out their most evil impulses. The idea being that everything that the Crossed do (the infected have a sort of cross-shaped rash on their face), is absolutely horrifying and disgusting, but it's all been done before.

As a Northampton lad, its pretty much my duty to be a complete and utter Alan Moore fanboy whilst still being totally unphased when I bump into him in town. Swamp Thing, V for Vendetta, From Hell, Watchmen- all classics. Plus he is actually trying to revive local fanzines with Dodgem Logic (a Northampton-based magazine)

Other comics I like are the early Tank Girl comics (when it was still made by Alan Martin and The Hewl) and alot of 2000 AD stuff like Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper.

You casually bump into Alan Moore sometimes!?! o_O
I love the guy. V for Vendetta changed my life and I've read and loved a huge part of his work.

lol sure. On the topic of Alan Moore, he did a few songs a while back with The Retro Spankees.

This was from the Dodgem Logic launch party:

Local by Brian Wood is about a woman who travels around America and Canada searching for something more in her life. So that's cool.
100 Bullets, Walking Dead, DMZ, and Watchmen are all cool too.

There is lots of good stuff out there but there is infinitesimally more shit. I can appreciate the medium though and I absolutely love Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind by Miyazaki and, you know other stuff as well.

The EC roster was THE SHIT! Great stories that questioned authority, and made social/political statements.

People already mentioned The Tick and Watchmen. Also great stuff.

Love all the old 60s "Underground" comics although some of the stuff can come across as sexist, and even racist. (Robert Crumb, I'm looking in YOUR direction!) I'm wondering why nobody has done a punk version of Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers of 40 Year Old Hippy yet.

Hate was good. Definitely like Peter Bagge.

Joe Matt was a good illustrator/story teller, but his stuff can get too personal and autobiographical.

Art Speigalman's MAUS is also very powerful, but a bit depressing. (It IS about how his family survived the Holocaust, after all)

Dennis Kitchen and Kitchen Sink Press had some good stuff, but might be a bit too hippy for some people. (Did a nice job with their Grateful Dead comics, if you like The Grateful Dead, but that only lasted six issues)

Last Gasp had some good comics, especially their "Slow Death" series, which should appeal to anarcho-environmentalists.

Revolutionary Comics had some decent issues. They were unauthorized biographies of bands, which even included The Ramones, Sex Pistols, and Dead Kennedys. Some of the bands featured were very supportive (Ice-T used to include the one about him in his press kits, and Frank Zappa allegedly bought a whole messload of them, tore out every page, framed the pages, and hung them on the wall.) and some bands, and people in the music industry took legal action against them. (The most famous example was when New Kids on The Block tried to sue them) The founder, Todd Loren died under mysterious circumstances in the early 90s.

I already posted a thread concerning the anarchist comic "Wildcat" by Donald Rooum. As I stated, it's the comic for anarchists who have the ability to laugh at themselves, and don't take things too seriously. Highly recommended.

And I still have a soft spot for Beano and Viz, but most people in the U.S. have never heard of these comics, and are not easily available in the states, although I knew of a few comic book stores that carried Viz for a short time, but stopped because importing them was too expensive, and not enough people were buying it. (Plus I don't think the majority of U.S. citizens got most of the humor) Plus the humor could be quite offensive to people who can't take a joke. (I swear that Millie Tant was loosely based on Vi Subversa, but don't hold me to that statement)

I'm not sure if it still comes out, and one had to look hard to find it in the U.S. but Deadline was a good multi-media magazine that featured good comics, and interesting pop culture articles, especially about music. That's where I first heard about Oasis, and Tank Girl. (That was years before Oasis got big, or the Tank Girl film was even conceived)
