So it came this year as well, the hysterical celebration of true capitalism at its "best". Surely I'm not the only one here that does not take part in it, and I actually feel a bit bad to even bring it up here, but I am kinda curious to what you comrades do at this time of year. Even though I do not want anything to do with it, it comes sneaking up from all likely directions; society is a given, but also friends and family that doesn't understand what's wrong with me (well, there's really not within me the wrong lies, although not everyone seems able to understand that). Pretty sick of having to defend myself to them when they feel I fail them, I thaught this might be the place for freaks like me in times like these...

X-Mas are the two days of the year I hate the most... Too much shit happened in the period from the first of December to Shitmas, so yeah, I hate it.
As for celebration, we have a tree, good food and my dad's b-day on the second day.

So true, the music might just be one of the fucking worst things about it all! Good thing theres such a thing as mp3 players, so that when needfully in some store, one can crank the volume up and let AAA outsound that crap! :D

It should be about embracing the people and environment which bring you true comfort... or we could just buy a whole bunch of useless things

I'm not a religious man at all, I think of myself as an anti-theist rather than the more liberal atheist type :D so I have no time for Xmas. But I do have a lot of sympathy for the punk / pagan traditions of getting together, eating, drinking, partying and not going to work (associated with the winter solstice at this time of year in the pagans' case). Bringing some fun and cheer into the darkest hours and what were traditionally the leanest months in my part of the world seems as good a reason for a party as any to me.

I've not taken part in a 'traditional' family Xmas since I was 17 (now 44, so can't see that changing much), although I do get together with my friends on the day for the above purposes. Some of them will still give me a small gift (usually vegan chocolate, something DIY or a charity shop bargain), but there's no pressure to give back (I do that at random times throughout the year when I make or see something I think a friend will like).

So I generally manage to avoid the whole fiasco and remain blissfully calm, unstressed and debt-free as a result. You're right about the shit music though.

Do any of you remember being a kid at christmas and what a wonderful thing it was? When you have kids it's sort of the same thing watching kids getting so excited because Father Christmas is coming. This years even better as i'm waiting for a Granddaughter to be born adding even more magic to the day. So to all you Bah Humbuggers, forget about the consummerism of the day. Go visit friends have a drink or three and forget about what Christmas has become and remember what it used to be.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS
