Define what is a "macho man" or how does one have to look to be a macho man?

    This? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlPd5d80 ... re=related

    or This? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO43p2Wqc08

as I said before it's all about lack of confidence, as most of the really strong and tough individuals I've met don't go around advertising it. At this point I could start giving theories on sexual attraction and what is sexual selection and why showing off has it's scientific explanation. But, I'm not going to do that, as sentient beings humans have a choice, and rejection is a choice...

Boomstick maybe you should seek out Electro Zombies, they seemed like really nice people when I met them...

Hahahaha... more than the look I mean the attitude towards women, those chauvinistic, ill-mannered morons who treat women like shit, but most of the time those kind of people tend to have a manly appearence as well. However I know we are all free to look as we like to but it frustrates me that in my case that means most girls being turned off by the way I look.

And yeah I've been looking into Electrozombies, but so far I've only listened an album I downloaded some days ago, I still have to see if they grow on me or not.

    Yeah those things are nuts.
A lot of animals can switch genders (like amphibians) and reproduce asexually (like hammerhead sharks) when there aren't any males around and they're kind of desperate.

Bananaman, I think there are a hundred definitions for "macho men." But I guess to give the most basic one... physically strong, not metrosexual (like spending a lot of time of their hair or wearing girl jeans), not very emotional, does typical "guy" stuff (football, babes, beers, etc.), and more aesthetic things like drives a big drunk or mustang, etc.
I know that is broad, but so is the term, so you get what you get. Honestly, when I think of my version of "macho men" I think douche bag as well.

    To the original post:

"Ok, I’m new to this site and am not fully versed on all general anarchist opinions. If anything I say sounds stupid or completely against anarchist views, just keep that in mind. I want to learn."

I just wanted to point out how respectable this comment was. Cheers. :]

"am not so naive as to think I am as physically strong as an average man."

Any martial artist [I've taken Tae Kwon Do, Pi Gua, Dahn Mu Do, a little Drunken Fist and Aikido and various Anarchist self-defense classes] will tell you that neither size nor strength matter that much. Maybe in a boxing ring, but I don't suppose you're planning on challenging your potential attacker to a pay-per-view match. What matters for you is technique. If you know how to move, a potential rapist won't be able to grab you. If you know where to put pressure, you can take down even a big scary rapist. [Snapping thumbs and wrists is relatively easy, FYI.] Also, of course, yelling can always be helpful, since rapists presumably try to keep their activities quiet.

That being said, there is still the intimidation factor. Anyone who knows how to fight isn't intimidated by size or gender or strength, but most rapists don't know how to fight and probably are intimidated by all those things and are much less likely to even attempt an attack if you are with an 'intimidating' male [or large buff female or any non-male individual...And on that note, would you feel safer with a physically strong female than by yourself??], so, your feelings seem totally legitimate to Me. Although, I would highly recommend looking into self defense and rape-prevention so that you legitimately feel safer on your own.

Carcass: ALL people are really potential rapists. And, yes, you can choose to never trust anyone, but I think I'd rather take My chances and have real trusted friends. And, yeah, I'm not really at high risk of getting raped [though I kind of have been...I was shit-faced-drunk and said no, but she didn't listen and I was in no condition to enforce My decision..] but that's the attitude I take with other topics that I am at higher risk for as well, such as the topic of infiltration and snitching. I was talking to a good friend recently, who said that if I wanted to really be careful, I REALLY shouldn't even trust him...I just said "I'd rather be in prison than never trust anyone." And, really, I'd rather be raped than never trust anyone. Not that everyone SHOULD feel that way and I am certainly not advocating that people trust everyone, I'm just saying that who to trust and how much is a personal choice and should be considered on an individual basis.

    Back to KnockItBack:
Doing porn and stripping IS objectification, though I certainly don't think it's ALWAYS sexist. Some people like being objectified, sometimes I do. And I have no problem with anything consentual. What IS sexist is the job market and the fact that many females, intersexuals and transsexuals feel they have no other option. Why does no one claim that men doing porn is sexist? Because, for the most part, men have more options for decent-paying jobs, so people generally expect [sometimes incorrectly] that when a man does porn or strips, it's because he wants to. If that's what someone WANTS to do, who can argue with that? Then the only problem I see is the inherent capitalistic nature of those jobs, not the objectification itself. But, people feeling [legitimately or not] that they have to objectify themselves against their will, in order to survive, is a SERIOUS problem for whoever feels that, women, men, androgynous individuals and everyone else alike.

I essentially agree about the media. It certainly is possible to ignore it. It is a constant attack on your subconcious [sp?] like Carcass pointed out, but if you realize that and make a habbit of questioning everything, it doesn't affect you. It's all about the mindset you're in. If you absolutely reject their lies, the more lies they send to you, the more you reject. It's as simple as that. If you question everything, no lie becomes or is even viewed as true no matter how many times it's told, because you question and expose it every time. I certainly blame people who listen to the media, but I also blame the media. Just because I don't listen doesn't mean My life isn't made harder by the idiots around Me who DO listen.

    Anyway, good post. :]

Go for the eyes is a good bet, but as said, fear/intimidation is the real problem. Media is bullshit on so many levels, but sexism for sure to massive degree. Consentual in private, no problem, who the hell cares about that, no harm done.

I don't think this has anything to do with objectification, more just common sense. Some women can defend themselves, but if you don't think you can, it makes sense that you'll do what you need to do to feel safe.

Also I noticed some posts saying you should carry a knife and so on, but I think that's a bad idea unless you're really confident with it, because if you just scratch someone they're only going to be more enraged, and might even kill you with your own knife.

I feel the same way about this. Porn doesn't all fit into one mold either, and in most porno's men are just hovering dicks without faces, isn't that objectification too?

Ya ultimately people should be smart enough to know bullshit when they see it, but it's hard when your bombarded with messages since the day you're born.

To butcher the words of Bruce Lee: if you're going to fight with a knife, expect to get cut.
But people in a fight have a tendency to overlook a knife until it's too late. It is also quite easy to get the other guy in shock with one of those 'simple' scratches if it's large enough.
But it should be said that I love weapons, but do not condone the use of weapons under most circumstances and there's usually a way out of it without one. Keyword being 'usually', mind you.

Ya that's a good point. Also you reminded of a saying from escrima about knife fights "winners bleed, losers gush"

I dunno, I'm more confident empty handed if I'm going up against a knife...I've taken them from attackers and used them against them before. And if I can take a knife from an angry nazi skinhead, maybe a rapist taking a knife from a potential victim is a legitimate worry. Maybe mace would be a better bet? But, it all depends on the individual. Also, I've gotten in the habbit of carying big, intimidating weapons [spiked brass knuckles, a bowie knife, etc.] very visibly whenever I go out, to discourage potential attackers, and I've noticed that I get in significantly less fights.

I just used to wear about 3 inch studs around my wrist when I was a few years younger.
But I do think that it has more to do with the way you walk around, than the weapons you visibly carry.
I've only gotten grief a couple of times and quite simply turned around to face them to ask them to repeat it, this usually sufficed to make the entire group back off. Then again I am male, 6"5 and have a very low-pitched voice. Most girls I know that get grief are the ones that look 'cute', 'friendly' and 'adorable'.
Also, I think mace is a very one-shot weapon, so you either hit or miss, you're better off training with your keys as weapons, or adding a short metal rod to a single key. The short metal rod can quite adequately be used to stab at large muscles, it doesn't have to be sharp, but 2 inches in length should suffice.
