I Am cuurentlly listening to NOFX's first demo... and it kicks ass... I love it, too bad they weren't this raw on their actual recordings (though the MAXIMUM RNR album is pretty close. Supposedly Fat Dyke took vocal lessons after it :p)

And I always thought it was hypocritical that NOFX had their own label, but records out on Epitaph instead of on their own. (yes I realize the did do stuff on fat, but the full length albums were always epitaph.)

No, the name came from them, apparently where they were from, they were surrounded by straight edge bands, and they werent near straight edge, so they came up with NOFX (No Fucking "Straight Edge") The X being for straight edge.

Thats why its pronounced NO-F-X, not N-O-F-X

"In 1983, guitarist Eric Melvin met bassist/vocalist Mike Burkett (Fat Mike) and started the band under the name NOFX, after a Boston hardcore punk band called Negative FX."

"Negative FX was a hardcore band from Boston formed in 1981"

both quotes from wikipedia, not that they are always accurate or anything...

I like NOFX, but then again I like lots of stuff that's not even remotely punk, much less anarcho.

Epitaph is not a major label? They fooled me. I'd still like one of their fans to explain to me why if they owned their own label, Fat Wreck Chords, they still put albums out on Epitaph?

Anyone know of Koos? They've released only a single cassette in a brown paper bag. They're from Joburg, South Africa and sound kind of like uhm... Frank Zappa on LSD and multiple other drugs trying to cover the Talking Heads while singing in South African... lol
That's one of the weirdest off the top of my head, but I have about 3700 albums on my Hard Disc... lol
Some more interesting than others of course.
But with the weirdest I also meant the most mainstream, I have in my 'collection' a lot of the kiddy-punk bands as well.

Yeah...their message being "Vote Democrat". Even Fat Mike said something like "The only problem with Bush not getting voted in for another term will be that I will have nothing to be angry about".

So what is punkvoter doing now, have they achieved their goal? Bush is out of office now and their beloved Democrats are in. Just checked the website, doesn't seem to be any activity since november last year.

I wouldn't sum up the man based on one paraphrase. I've seen him in interviews and he seems to just play dumb and goof off most of the time. However, somewhat like the Ramones, any casual reading of the lyrics, at least to the better songs, betrays an intelligence far greater than the public persona.

If you want to talk about voting in general, rthat's been covered, and, essentially resolved, I posted a couple comments on the rational Anarchist position in the thread that's devoted to that issue. That isn't this thread.

Leaving that aside, given the nature of American politics at the time the stance was pragmatic and logical. I really don't think Fat Mike, etc., are particularly enamored of the democratic party, it's just the least offensive of the two available options at the moment. I think he should be applauded. It would also make sense that the site hasn't had any activity because we only elect a president every four years. Will it be revived in 2012? Will it take the same approach? That's fairly pointless speculation.

    Personally i can't stand them.

    1.The music is too clean.
2.fat Mike is a hypocrite ("hey guys fight these corporate monsters,But come see us play at the warped tour first")
3.Fat Mike is a hypocrite ("Damn those Christians ruining the world,Hey guys do you know if our friends good Charlotte are playing warped this year?")
4.Fat mike is a hypocrite ("I believe in freedom of speech,Except christians")
5.They are no different to other bands such as Pennywise,Anti-Flag etc, that make excuses as to why it's Ok to use corporate sponsorship and MTV videos to "Spread the message to a larger audience")
6.Everyone except Propaghandi that is on Fat Wreck Chords is shite.

    But hey,that's just me.

ooooh i disagree with that one. Good Riddance was a great band, very political, some great anarcho lyrics also. No Use For A Name was good, less political but quite a few great songs about the environment and more personal issues and such. Then To a lesser degree i also like songs here and there by Strung Out, Snuff, Screeching weasel, Descendants etc...

and of course Citizen Fish and The Subhumans even released a record or two through Fat.
