    Ahoj

Just came back from the Czech Republic, and was hoping to make some connections there. :)

I'm an old Punk from So Cal, and now live out here in the woods of Oregon. Just spent 3 weeks in Czech Republic for the 75th Memorial of Lidice, and also to visit my Grand Mother's Village in Tabor area.

I spent a few weeks in Praha and was really hoping to meet some Anarcho Punks there, but alas I didn't see any.

I met an awesome guy on the flight back who is a folk/punk musician who just did a show at the last Anarcho Punk squat in Praha and said was huge. So I know you guys exist there lol.

I desperately want to learn Czech and is so sad that my Mother wouldn't teach me.

I remember back in the mid 80's I always used to scan the scene sections in Maximum Rock and Roll zine for anything from Czechoslovakia and was always excited to see something even though was in the cold war.

grew up with the crew who later became Vegan Reich in Laguna Beach, Cal. Back in the day we drank like fish and smoked weed! lol I came out of the closet in 88' which is partly why Sean from Vegan Reich reacted with a backlash and homophobia. But we were still kids back then and he quickly got over it.

Saw tons of great shows together! One of our first shows was PIL at the Paladium in 83. Social Distortion, Sub Humanz I think was one of my all time favorite shows in 84 at the Olympic Auditorium! They did From the Cradle to the Grave! Growing up in LA area from 79' - 92' I saw a lot of great shows.

I wish I could of stayed to see this show... mightysound1b.jpg

I've seen The Adicts countless times with Toy Dolls back in the 80's and they put on a great show. Great mates too. They invited me to their table for dinner one time before a show at Fenders Ballroom back in 86.

Would really love to connect with any Anarcho Punks in the Czech Republic. So if you are interested am looking forward to it. :)

    Peace

     Czech Republic
Ahoj! :D I live in Czech Republic, in Brno. There are definitely some punks here, even in Praha. And a lot in Brno :p
Have you been to ani gigs in Praha? They have a LOT of them, even in summer I think. You'd definitely meet some fellow punks there :).

Did you like it here? Is it a lot different than the place you live in your opinion?

    Ahoj Havran :)

Where I live in Oregon, except for no old buildings, it looks very much the same as the countryside in Southern Bohemia. Same trees mostly, same tasty mushrooms. very forested, but we have bigger mountains in this area.

I wasn't able to see any shows in Praha sadly. On the flight back I sat next to a really awesome guy who spent 3 weeks touring all over Czech Republic. He is a one man band who plays folk punk . I am still trying to remember his name.

Now did I like it in the Czech republic? It spoiled me! I love everything about it! I so very love the people, the food, history, language (even tho is so hard for me), architecture, and especially the sense of Community! The close community is what I think I love the most. We really don't have that here in the United States. For instance I have lived next door to my neighbors for years and didn't even know each other's names for the longest time. People are loners usually. I don't think it's healthy at all.

That's what helped me growing up in Punk was the very tight knit sense of community! I miss that.

I so very love the Czech Republic and am very proud to be Bohemian and Moravian. We have so very much to be proud of as a people.

I really wanted to get out of Praha more, but had too much luggage. Brno and Moravia were high on my lists to see, but forgot my Grandfather's Village in the North East.

I'd really love to hear all about Brno and the area as well as make some friends to write to etc. I live in the mountains and there hasn't been any punks here for decades! Rap and Country music is what the youth listen too as well as heavy metal. I haven't seen an Anarcho Punk in years sadly. I grew up in the middle of it in Southern California and we used to write to Sub Humans, Flux of Pink Indians, Conflict, Crass, etc back then. Punk died here in Southern Oregon in the early 90's.

Being back here a couple weeks now, life seems so empty and flat. All l think about is getting back. I think it's an American thing. I've been told that Europe in general is very social and community minded and America is seriously lacking that. It's Anti-Social here. it sucks. Hard drugs are a very serious problem Everywhere. Even in remote rural places like where I live, people are really wrecked from Meth and Heroin. I think it's because of the lack of community. We are social creatures and we feel badly when we are alone and excluded so we try to feel better by using drugs.

I think that's why Europeans are far healthier than Americans. I suspect that the Czech Republic has a Much bigger Punk Community than the US any more. In LA and Southern California we invented Hardcore and Slam Dancing. But by 1986 it died and never recovered. The scene was ruined by Nazi Skinheads and then Pop Punks took it over and didn't have a clue and regardless of their fashion I couldn't even call them Punk. They were posers. It became an empty fashion fad with no scene.

I'm really excited to hear from you and am dying to hear all about the scene there as well as All things Czech too! :)

I'm still trying to figure out how in the world I am going to learn Czech in a place where I can't find a person who even speaks any Slavic, let alone Czech? I might just have to Move there! lol

Thank You so very Much Havran for writing to me and would love to chat more!
