    What?
    Exactly.

I missed the punk scene the first time around, on account of I was about 4 and not really clued in to anything yet. A friend introduced me to Jello Biafra's spoken word albums when I first started college, which lead me to the Dead Kennedys and started the long slow burn that led me here. To be honest, Even though I listened to the music I don't think I ever really got the message until I went back to college in my 30s to give "playing the game" one last shot.

Suffice to say I'm here now and not there. For the best. Never had much luck with bureaucracies and I was never made to fit in anyway. Funny how long it can take to figure that out. Power of indoctrination I guess.

Now I'm doing my best to make up for lost time and get a feel for the music, culture, and philosophy that I missed out on growing up. Wife and I are working on starting a band, though it's slow going since honestly we can't play worth shit right now. Tempted to scrap the instruments and go a cappella, but our only good mic crapped out on us so all that's kind of on pause right now. In the meantime I'm working on a couple books with a definite punk/anarchist bent. Fiction's always been a good way to get people to think about ideas they wouldn't ordinarily consider, and if you can't tell from this post I've always had an easier time organizing and expressing my thoughts via long, rambling stories than any other method. :ecouteurs:

At any rate, this is the first online community I've come across that really seems to share my outlook. I'm looking forward to seeing what I can learn, and maybe even add.

    Welcome,

May I ask what you are doing now that you are not "playing the game"?

Scraping by on disability mostly. :/

It's far from ideal, but it's the closest thing to a viable option we've got at the moment.

Whatever works, or kinda works. It doesn't sound like you're doing too badly though. Do you have any music? Music as in MP3's from you and your wife's band?

Not yet. We've got a number of songs at varying levels of completion and a "covers to learn" list that's longer than my arm, but to be honest the only instruments either of us are good with right now are our voices, and with the mic dead we haven't done any recording.

I have some MP3's from an old solo project still haunting my hard drive but that was more industrial than punk, and even if it has some of the same socio-political sentiment the maybe two songs I recorded with actual vocals did not come out well. Guess I had to learn the hard way that my vocal chords are not suited to death metal-style growling. :ecouteurs:

    Heh, sounds like a plan.

I know I shouldn't be that concerned about quality anyway, but the wife and I both have a major perfectionist streak and between that and the social anxiety it's damn hard to put together something we feel comfortable sharing. Might try breaking out the DAW and the cheap microphone I use for chatting on skype and putting together a few "low-fi" singles though. I've got craptons of lyrics sitting on my hard drive not getting sung unless I'm in the shower or walking home from the bus, and that's just a criminal waste.

Nah, I've gone by a few other usernames over the years but that isn't one of them. Not bad though, sounds like it'd make a good stage name.
