I'm probably going to sound extremely ignorant now, but... what's RASH?

Well, around here most to all skinheads are racist and neo-nazi's.

 

On the west coast several sharps have been murdered over the last couple of years, I'm sure there are some around it just seems they've gone underground. We don't get skins of any kind coming to shows anymore, not like 20 years ago.

 

yes it stands for red and anarchist skins , its getting big in florida , most skins in florida were sharps but its getting larger with rash , i havent heard of many nazi skins in awhile , non at shows or anyhting

 

and all the skins that i've met in Southern California, that claim to be traditionalist/non racist worship Skrewdriver, i never understood that

Well of course I open my mouth and sure enough a few days after x-mas I get my lip split open in the pit at a show by some punkass skinhead, I didn't actually see him do it but when I stood around for the next band he was cheap-shotting from the side. I actually kept my cool because it was a Pyrate Punk show and I didn't want to burn the venue. But after the show I talked to them and let them know that I was putting that guy on notice...any more bullshit out of him at the next shows and.... well use your imagination. He didn't realize he was being photographed and now we all know exactly what he looks like. And yes I am serious, also a couple of them murdered out by Vegas a few years ago.

I have never actualy met a skinhead in my life.. But a friend of mine dated one in Colorado Springs. Apperently Nazi skins are big over there. And the kid she was dating was like 15.. I know today's youth is fucked up, but I mean, goddamn! So I told her to send him my avatar picture and say it was from her gay, gipsy, Jewish, black friend. (She's not rascist or homophobic at all, however she is a hard-core conservative and her parents are NRA members.. )

 

A Traditional Skinhead does not listen to Oi or Punk...that is just how it always has been.

Traditional Skinheads like the Rudeboys (as in the ones from the first wave in the 1960s) listen to;

First and Second wave Ska
Rocksteady
Soul/Motown/Northern Soul

They were the progression from the Mods I think that needs to be aknowledged.

Oi was a by-product of the Punk era and saw the revival of the Skinheads but they were more associated with the Punk scene...

The National Front came in around that time and stole the look because they thought it would look hard and make them look tough when they embarked on their campaigns, they did a lot of recruiting from the soccer crowds who were mostly young impressionable Skinheads. This also provided them with protection in the streets to a point...and this is where the media really jumped on it and lead to the blanket label of "Racist/Nazi" to all Skinheads.

This is where the politicisation of the Skinheads came from to the point of anti-fascism. Skinheads were generally from blue collar families and it was an expression of working class culture and all that. Many traditional Skinheads will not associate with SHARP or RASH because they got into the scene because they liked the music, the good times with their mates and the chance to wear some top fucking clothes

...however this does not mean to say that traditional Skinheads are not anti-racist and it does not mean to say that they don't go toe to toe with the Boneheads when the time comes for it.

I personally disagree with the entire skinhead scene as a whole, S.H.A.R.P.s are uniformly patriotic, which to me is the same as being a nazi prick.

RASH is ok, but Skins are still nerds in my eyes.

Then again I hate everything and everyone so dont listen to me.

 

Get fucked I still hang out on that scene so I am speaking from first hand knowledge.

I think what happened to SHARP is people took the patch and made it
into a gang.
Every one by me claims to be traditional but the SHARP thing was
what they were doing in the mid 90's then they seem to move away from it.
I could see alot of flip flopping happening from skins.
not so much from Anti fascist skins but ones who just ride the fence
to those who are boneheads and want to fit into the majority if the majority happens to
be Anti Fascist

 

I dont get it either trads in my area are into it to.
They say they listen to songs prior to ian stuart openly being
a racist but the thought still lingers on and the music is easily
forgotten by me as a result.
but even brown kids (like me) who are traditional/non racist
are into it to.
Its probably them not wanting to be P.C. but being a racist is cool, right?

 

Being a skinhead has absolutely nothing to do with political values, so claiming SHARP is pointless. It's just reaffirming the mainstreams stereotype of skinheads as racist thugs when someone tries to proclaim themself a SHARP, as if they are something other than an ordinary skinhead. Being a skinhead, you're already part of an originally black subculture and should have to impose a label on yourself to be acceptable to people who aren't involved. I'm not even going to begin with the violence and bullshit SHARPs have caused either, many of them are just as bad as any fascist. Being antifa is fine, but it has nothing to do with skinhead music, style, or ethics, and should be left separate.
