i haven't heard anything about this, but dont doubt it, the games i was reffering to are ones like America's Army. he're's a snippet of propaganda from wilipedia.

America's Army (also known as AA or Army Game Project) is a series of video games and other media developed by the United States Army and released as a global public relations initiative to help with recruitment. America's Army was conceived by Colonel Casey Wardynski and is managed by the U.S. Army's Office of Economic and Manpower Analysis at the United States Military Academy.[2] Wardynski envisioned "using computer game technology to provide the public a virtual Soldier experience that was engaging, informative and entertaining."

then there is also Close Combat: First to Fight, video game developed with input from U.S. Marines

Close Combat: First to Fight is a squad-based military first-person shooter (FPS) game created by Destineer Studios for the Windows, Macintosh and Xbox platforms. It was released in April 2005. The player commands a fireteam of 3 other U.S. Marines in a realistic, though fictional scenario where the United Nations sends Marines into Lebanon when their Prime Minister falls ill and Syria and Iran send forces to bolster certain factions.

the history of video games and the military even goes back to the old arcade game Battlezone, which the us army later asked atari to make in a modified form for them to use as a tank driving teaching tool.

True , COD4 and a few other military games are actually helped by the military. COD: Modern Warfare 2 was helped by Navy Seals. United States army help fund the game 'Americas Army' and provided it with alot of resources for the development of the game , and was used by the national guard as recruiting and is also seen in alot of gaming magazines. With that said , not all games purposes are to reach out for recruiting efforts. There are many kid's that will never join the military whether it be for political , or personal reasons , and just like everyother game and there fantasy world they try to stimulate and create a fantasy world of realism , not so much for recruiting techniques.

I highly doubt Modern Warfare's main purpose here was to contribute to military recruitment numbers. As for americas army...yeah , that's what they are kinda going for , but they don't hide it neither , and in my opinion is a shitty game anyways.

Anxiety69, the American Legion post in my hometown hosts an annual HALO tournament where they can subtly recruit kids who are way below the legal age. An Army Experience Center just opened near where I live in Philly. It's full of games and simulators to draw the ADD generation likes moths to a flame.

I enjoy computer games because they're easy to pirate. Honestly, I wonder what the point of playing anything besides Starcraft is. If you'll forgive me waxing nostalgic, I preferred video and computer games back when they were made by nerdy hobbyists who were trying to create innovative and novel interfaces. These days, studios just keep making the same game over and over with 'better" graphics and a higher price tag each time. First person shooters are fun and all, but I don't really care to follow them past Unreal Tournament (my poor computer would never run them anyway).

HAHAHA! THE first thread that everyone here is into

Well... im a video game fan as well. I LOVE violent video games (FPS, RPG'S ones) like Halo, Fallout. I HATE buying them though. I think nex gen games are shit compared to old school games (pre-xbox, ps2, though they do have some solid titles). I would either borrow or trade in games because video gaming can be an expensive habit but i have a job now that lets me rent free games so thats good for me.

I just got this new one called prototype. Where basically you go around NYC and just kill everyone which to me is fun. But i do know its only a video game. I absolutely HATE sports games. As for Call of Duty? Call of Duty 2 was my favorite. The modern warfare ones are alright but the multiplayer and generality of the game sucks. (Though the one mission where you shoot up an airport of civilians is intense)

Goldeneye was the shit, ive done the same before as you Spider.

    I can go on forever.

I love video games too. I hate the fact that they are tied to huge corporations (microsoft, sony, nintendo (actually the worst environmentally, will try find the article about that), but I think that video games can exist outwith a capitalist framework, and come the revolution I'd still like to see video games being produced.

I generally buy my games second hand, and I do play military type shooters (COD etc).

Have you guys heard the excellent Propagandhi song aimed at "America's army"?

    http://propagandhi.com/wp-content/mp3/diejugend.mp3 - mp3

http://propagandhi.com/lyrics/potemkin/ - lyrics are there if you scroll down a bit.

P.S Carcass - I hope you are referring to the original UT! Can't believe its ten years old, and I've been playing it for that long too!

Especially the custom maps and mods were fun, for a while.

Also, is anyone here into the Modding Community?
This is where real video game anarchist Ideals come into play, by modding your systems to play copied games/roms/emulators etc.

I think every system I own is modded Minus my gamecube and 360.

I came into posession of a modded xbox 1 with a 500GB HD....anything you could ever name old school video game wise is on there from every NES/SNES game ever made, to PS1 ISOs....damn that Policenauts translation rules..

I don't own any consoles, except for a NES, GB, GBA and an atari, so online-console-play isn't in it for me. Anyways, if you ever see someone crawl around with the nick I use on here, it's probably me :p

haha yeah then at the end you get shot in the face
i like how they included that as a deep undercover CIA thing
    shit like that really happens

someone else beat the game before i could play through it, but *SPOILER* i love the end where you pull a knife out of your chest and whip it into the skull of the leader of the U.S. forces (at least he is the leader in the game) then get picked up by some Russian in a helicopter. maybe the sequel will be a radical anarchist game? doubt it tho...

Yeah! I paid to get my xbox 1 modded a few years back, and entertainment wise it has paid off like crazy. I would do the thing at blockbuster and hollywood video where u get unlimited rentals for like $20 a month, and i would go in there upto three times a day, take a game home, copy it, and return and get another. not too mention the that it has emulators for pretty much every old system, my favorite being MAME to run old arcade games. Not to mention it can now play DVDs from any region, and do a ton of other fun things. One reason I haven't gotten an xbox 360 yet is the modding doesn't seem to be as good, (not too mention they have a high failure rate... red rings of death and all :p) But yeah, I reccomend if u can find an old xbox cheap getting it modded if u like playing the old games.

I would totally challenge u on Marvel vs/ capcom 2 if there was a feesible way... My team is usually anarkis, The cactus guy, and the tentacled marvel guy (sorry it;s been a while I don't remember their names off hand)
