o_O found this cuz i am usually alone, when i go out into the world, and cops are constantly crowding me, i just feel like i'm not gonna last long/get royally fucked, cuz i wear my clothes. not sure what to do about it. for some reaon i don't feel like myself (or something along those lines) when i compromise and wear clothes to try to blend in, and people treat me like shit anyway. not violent or confrontational, just an artist, want to express myself through the clothes i work on. fucking sucks.

hi there paulie84, there is no shame in being yourself, however what counts isn't how you express yourself through clothes as a fashion statement, but the mind, i know the feeling of being alone as you describe it, however you shoulnd't care or back down when people critizize you, when you are youself.

and if you are so scared or worried of wearing the clothes (as you haven't really described which or what you wear) then leave it, be a punk with attitude and not the clothes

anyhow welcome to APN and welcome aboard comrade :ecouteurs: .

Thanks for the reply/welcome. I usually prefer my leather, stud belt, boots, camo shorts etc... But think I'm gonna lower the risk in my life as much as I can. Sticking to less conspicuous garb for the time being. Shouldn't matter but it does, it's my identity. Compromising that reduces my confidence, changes my creative output, among other things, leads me to hide/isolate more, but in truth it's safer. I have a lot going on at the moment, and need to lay low til things smooth out so I can pursue a few opportunities that have come up without hindrance. But enough of that. Gonna be on the lookout for shows in se pdx, thanx again!

well, the first thing i could advise you to do, is to stop worrying in that much, being that paranoid is very serious.

I can tell you a story that happend to me not long time ago

as i was traveling back to my hometown in a train after a political meeting with my youthparty,

and i wasn't far from home, when 2 trainstops before i came to the trainstation at my hometown a nazi came into the train, i was listening to some music and first discovered when i was alone in the train compartament while he went into the train, at first he seemed awfully agressive and violent against the other passengers when alot of the passengers left the train compartament because he threatend them to do so, he taunted me and threatend me with getting my ass beaten up if i dind't leave the train, i was shitting my pants when he began heiling and walking towards me, as i quickly rushed out from the train and ran as fast i could home, i heard him running after me yelling something gibberish, and i finally came home, this event traumatized me for a little over 2 months, and i was afraid of wearing my clothes, and was worried sick of provoking any nazis so i could get beaten up, i dind't sleep well aswell, and i began talking to my comrades in my youthparty about it and met alot of other people who has experienced the same things as i have, i haven't met the nazi since but if i ever do, i'll stand up against him this time,

i tell you this, that if you do not feel safe wearing your clothes when you encounter police officcers or nazis, then remember this: you are brave enough to stand here against anyone no matter what of odds, you have shown that you have the confidence in wearing this clothes and you do so in pride and nobody should ever feel you down! \m/

    Hey paulie
I think we all agree that clothes don't make the punk, but the punk makes the clothes :) I understand the need you feel to express yourself through your outward appearance and the feeling of identity and belonging, or even of non-belonging (to the social norms) you get from it and how it makes you feel good and everything and you shouldn't let anything stop you from doing that. Those kinds of reactions you are getting from people are "normal" if you look punk/don't conform I think anywhere in the world, you automatically make yourself into a target. Just ignore them or relish it and feel good about who you are (and who you are not). But even without the clothes, no-one can take from you who you are if you don't let them. Either way, keep that feeling inside you. \m/

wow, thnx a lot guys, i really didn't expect that much understanding and support. yeah, i hate being profiled, targeted, muted in any way. truthfully i guess not hearing truth for so long can weigh a person down. i do get support from my friends here in portland, but i will definitley try to stay updated on what's going on here. fuck the former generations for the most part, they'd oppress by any means necessary for the comfort they invested in.
