I don't get the joke and how is it racist?

(btw, Polish or whatever isn't a race, it's a nationality)

the joke is continuing a lame ass stereotype that polish people are stupid or backwards, and that hitler marching in backwards is a dig at that. I am half jewish and a quarter pole, I have a great sense of humor, and find this trash insulting and no where near funny. Do you also tell insulting jokes about gays, blacks, retarded people, and anyone else who is different? yeah that's real punk rock.

Wonder138 i like your passion and agree with you about unity. I don't feel i was out of line, I didn't call VegBarb any names or anything, I have no ill feelings towards him, just don't understand how people can still find those stereotypes funny and claim to be into unity and anti-racist. If we are going to make jokes at people's expenses, it should be towards the established order, the idiots in power, the silent majority who puts them there etc.

If you noticed we sort of buried the hatchet, cuz he made me laugh, but I don't get the part were you say you make racist jokes but your not racist, forgive me my brother but that is a contradiction. I guess maybe I need to lighten up a little, but I've had a price on my head before by Warskins and Posse Comittatus so the board will understand if I'm a little oversensitive,

For me, it's more about context, not content. In that respect I think VegBarb got it wrong. Coming out with things like this among people you don't know and, more importantly, who don't know you, isn't so smart.

The best humour generally offends someone. But I think it's possible to seperate humour, even cultural / racist / sexist / disablist / homophobic etc. humour, from the ideals that underpin our other thoughts, behaviour and attitudes towards the people we share this planet with.

Quick example - my pub's Xmas party a few years ago, fancy dress, theme was dead famous people or famous people you wished were dead. My mate Wayne arrived dressed as Adolf Hitler, full uniform, moustace, boots, the lot. He's black. Straight behind him was Geoff, dressed as Ian 'Skrewdriver' Stuart, complete with a 'White Power' t-shirt. He's part-Jewish and one of the hardest and most committed antifa people I've ever met (the t-shirt came from a 'debate' we'd had with some fash a few years previously).

It was very amusing to us but, from the outside, could've looked pretty fucked up.

Humour is a funny old business.

but the thing is, jokes like that continue the stereotypes and ignorance. thats like saying it's ok to pick on someone, cause everyone else is doing it.

I know how this feels punkmar. The first time I ever came in contact with militant racism was last summer when someone who i believed to be a close friend of mine told his latin supremacist cousin and his fellow gangbangers the latin kings about a comment i made sardonically about "hailing satan". I'm entirely passive in nature and probably can't hold up in a fight for a second. So when I found out this group was out to get me I could no longer feel safer in my community. The worst part is that im chicano myself (my grandfather even participated in activism with Cesar Chavez for fucks sake!) and I was being hunted by my own people. It socially was the worst few months of my life and I could not go to my parents about it because of the imminite questioning of "how does a lower middle class suburbanite become associated with Latin supremacy?". The bottom line is that racism sucks. However, the joke that VegetarianBarbarian told no matter how ridiculous, wasn't racist. Just offensive.

Well i disagree, because the joke is demeaning an entire race of people. In fact i don't see how it isn't racist.

Well this is the last post I will put on here, Dwtcos I appreciate your sentiments as well as all the comments on this thread, but....we don't need division, exclusion, or derision amongst ourselves. If one of us stands, all of us stand with him, If one of us falls, all of us fall with him. U N I T Y. I am neither the spokesman or elder in this group, however Anxiety69 is of polish/jewish decent and I defend his position that he feels slighted racialy by VegBarb's comments. What are you gonna do? One isn't convinced he's wrong, and obviously some of us disagree; while some of us don't. Call it what you want, it's devisive either way.

    Web definition of race:
"people who are believed to belong to the same genetic stock; 'some biologists doubt that there are important genetic differences between races of human beings'"
therefore the Polish by definition are not a race, but a nationality
but you could still say that this joke is (unintentionally?) offensive toward those who submit to Judaism, which is something I admittedly overlooked when comprehending the joke, mah bad :(

    The Poles aren't a 'race'.

In Europe, we often make jokes about the lifestyles and cultures of our neighbours, based on completely over-the-top stereotypes, but without any malice whatsoever. I have good friends from France, Germany, Lithuania, Ireland, Poland, Basque, Russia and beyond, and we can all take the piss out of each other without being offensive or offended. It's because we are friends and care about each other that we can do this, but we certainly wouldn't do it to people who we didn't know and who could misinterpret what was being said.

I'm sure Californians make jokes about folk from Alabama - http://www.ahajokes.com/alabama_jokes.html - or wherever. What's the difference?

I have to side with Veg-Barb on this one.

Its a fucking JOKE. If you dont like it, fine. If you are offended by it, well the jokes on you.

What I really want to know is.... hmmm... how to put this. OK I admit it, I dont fucking get it. So Veg-Barb: I didnt find your joke funny, but I will defend your right to say it. (hmm, that sounds familiar).

And No, I didn't get the flamingo reference either.

    I have a 'racist' joke too :

"They say that hell has English Cooks, Italian police, French Government and American mass-media"

That should be WAY more offensive.

"A Japanese would say - I work 3 hours per day for myself, 3 hours per day - for the Emperor and 3 more hours - for Japan.
"A Bulgarian would respond:- I work 3 hours for myself, Emperor - we don’t have, and why the hell do I have to work for Japan?!"

    It funny dudes.. Laugh :lmao:
