The food you eat but anyway. YES. TheBlackNova is right. The G20 are the top 20 countries with the most hearsay (The ones with the most money to buy out anything they need) and get anyway with it without the public noticing or caring.

the G20 is the successor organisation of the G8 and the G7 before that.

basically its a meeting of the worlds 19 "strongest" national economies, represented by finance ministers and central bank governors, the no. 20 is brought up by the european union, the EU is represented by the president of the european council (brussels) and by a member of the european central bank.

the G20 brings up 80% of the world trade, 80% of the gross world product (GWP) and some two-thirds of the world population.

some countries - like spain or more recent swizzerland - are not members of the G20, but participate at the meetings, also a handful of international organisations like the world bank or the international money fund.

officially the representants of the meetings study, review and promote high-level discussion of policy issues to promote international financial stability and try to address issues that go beyond the responsibilities of any one (national) organization.

translated into common sense: the G20 is set up to solve or soften economic issues produced by the immanent flaws of global capitalism and state-capitalism ("communist" china ect.) to keep their dirty business rolling and prevent global recession or smaller economic crises like the recent national bancrotts.

sounds fair? - of course it isn't, some of the critisized issues:
1) the exclusivity of membership - the african continent is completely missing, an invitation of african representatives with an "observer status" is a mere margin.
2) with some interest in the high degree of legitimacy and influence over the management of the global economy and financial system every nation wants to be "in" but the actual members are warily preserving their exclusivity.
"poor" countries in need of financial support have not the slightest chance to get "in" to be heard.
3) the G20 are a "selfappointed" group, kind of progress since G8, but still arbitrary and undermining the legitimacy of far more "neutral" organizations like the IMF, World Bank and United Nations, which were set up to solve global issues in general interest of the world population.
4) there is no formal charter and the meetings happen behind "closed doors", so nobody outside knows whats really discussed and agreed upon.
5) the CIA & NSA-whistleblower Edward Snowden gave documents to the important newspaper "the guardian" , the papers prove that some british security service has spied out/eavesdropped the representatives of other member nations - and (how funny?!) plans to do so in the future again!
the informations gathered in this way were given to british politicians.
Edward Snowden has to be on the run and to seeking asylum - i hope he gets out better than Bradley Manning.
