Liking a band means agreeing with their beliefs?

There's only an extremely small number of right-wing bands I enjoy GG Allin, AxCx, Burzum, Mayhem, Satanic Warmaster, SOD and Guttermouth (although Guttermouth isn't actually right-wing I've talked to them before). I'm an anarcho-communist my views lie best with bands like Choking Victim, Chumbawamba, Crass, and Propagandhi.

This has probably already been said, but I'll say it in my own words. Liking a band does not mean you agree with them, but it does mean you support them and any cause the members individually promote if you buy anything from them or go to their shows. No matter how good a band's music might be, I can do without any right-wing stuff or bands that promote bullshit. And by the way, as far as I care, condoning is no better than promoting. I listened to Exploited back in the day, and I knew they were fence-sitters when it came to the left-right thing, but I looked past it because Wattie's songwriting was really unintelligent anyway. I think on their myspace page, they say they're anti-racist, but "against left-wing fascism." It was when I learned of the really shady stuff they've been involved in that I finally said "fuck them." So yeah, that was like a lesson to me not deal with that vague, unspecific language again.

Wouldn't go see any of the aforementioned artists, aside from SOD since Scott Ian isn't racist and I've seen Guttermouth (for free and they gave me a shirt, we were chatting they aren't actually right-wingers, they use those lyrics to jab at conservatives).

I wasn't intentionally plugging his music that was just the bands that came to mind when I was thinking what bands go well with my personal beliefs, in hindsight I forgot to mention Reagan Youth which is a big one for me.

I compromise and I'll listen to bands as long as their music doesn't reflect their shitty beliefs. I love Burzum, even if Varg is a bit of a deluded prick. I own a few of his records and as far as I'm concerned I'm supporting his music, not his politics. His music reflects something completely different.
However put a Skrewdriver record in front of me then fuck that.

The difference is Skrewdriver actually express their shit through their lyrics or whatever. Varg of Burzum is a nationalist, but like I said, his music doesn't reflect it.

I'm pretty sure I saw a debate about this somewhere on this site all ready. Isn't he the guy that went to jail and wanted to blow up a squat or something like that?

I believe so, I mean the man himself is fucked up and insane, but I can at least appreciate some of his music (only stuff that doesn't reflect his beliefs). I haven't listened to anything he's done in like 2-3 years though, black metal in general just bores the shit out of me.

    Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I was here and the reason I'm resurrecting this thread it's because I have a few doubts concerning the music I'm listening the most these past few weeks (Black Metal) and since the subject has been brought up here then I thought that maybe someone could answer the questions I have, which are:

If I listen to a BM band that isn't NS but is on the same label than a NSBM band, would that make me someone who supports NS? Would it be wrong if I buy records from that label?

Would I be supporting NS Black Metal if I listen to a non-ns BM band who has played or will play at a concert/gig/festival with a ns band?

If I listen to atmospheric black metal, is that considered supporting nazism since the asshole who apparently made the first ABM album (at least that's the info I have so far) is a nazi piece of shit?

Just to be clear: right now I can't consider myself an anarchist since I haven't done much reading nor living as such, but still if I were to become one in the future I don't want to be doing anything that could be considered anti-anarchist which is why I'm asking these questions here.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

This is an anarchist Anti-fascist site, we have no quarter or tolerance for fence-riding bullshit, whether a particular fascist states his political beliefs in his music or not makes not an ounce of difference to us, the proceeds from the sale of that music are channeled to fascist and nationalist causes worldwide and our anti-fascist brothers and sisters are the direct victims of the money and proceeds from that music you soooo appreciate...murders all around the globe of anarchists are a direct result...get it through your thick fucking skulls.... this is not a game.

Might I ask who is this non-ns BM band? I am quite informed on Black Metal and might be able to provide info on their label and ideologies. And no just because Varg (I assume that's whom you are talking about, even though there are sadly others who have followed is footsteps) made some of the first atmospheric black metal doesn't mean it's all dodgy. One band I would suggest is Panopticon.

Thank you for answering! and yeah I meant that asshole Varg, I haven't listened to any of his stuff and probably never will...

Well, when I say "non ns" bm band I mean bands in general that have nothing to do with NS and which are mostly apolitical, but if I have to say names then I could mention: Darkened nocturn Slaughtercult, Immortal, Atrum Inritus (new band), Absu, Negator, Agrypnie, Vreid, Der Weg Einer Freiheit, Cultes des Ghoules, Sargeist, Thy Darkened Shade, Negative Plane, Spectral Lore and many more that I can't remember right now... from these bands I mentioned, is any NSBM or related to nsbm bands/labels?

So then I guess I can listen to atmospheric black metal without feeling guilty about it... thanks, but still I wonder if I should listen to bands that are on the same label as a NS band or that have played on the same concert/gig/festival than a NSBM band, for example I was listening to Immortal but stopped because they're going to play in a festival where also a NS band/project, Nokturnal Mortum, is playing.

Thanks in advance for your answer and advice! I will try and check Panopticon.

No Colours is a label definitely to be conscious of. They have produced recordings for NSBM bands such as Absurd, Thor's Hammer, and Graveland. HOWEVER, Dimmu Borgir did have their record For All Tid produced by No Colours, and there is some controversy to whether or not they have NS sympathy, but that is not officially proven. Personally I don't listen to Dimmu Borgir, that band to me is like the Sex Pistols of Black Metal, over-produced, over-commercialized music that really doesn't have anything provocative to say. And alot of the bands you mentioned are okay, Immortal astounds me because they have made a point to shy away from the more extremist ideologies of Black Metal, perhaps they don't know that Nokturnal Mortum is NS.

Yeah I've heard about No Colours so maybe I should stay away from that label and as for Immortal... who knows, maybe you're right and they don't know Nokturnal Mortum are NS so maybe I shouldn't stop listening to them.

Anyway thanks for your advice, it is much appreciated.
