As a lot of you might already be aware of, Turkey's in turmoil. Turkish comrades need the news to spread as much as possible, so I thought there should be something here too.
What started as a protest against transforming Taksim Gezi Park in Istanbul into the 94th mall turned into a fierce massive demonstration, followed by brutal police attacks.
The area is drowning in tear gas, there's been a lot of injuries and about 1700 arrests.
The protests have spread to 67 cities, including Izmir and Ankara.

Ah Europe, you have never pissed me off more. They don't report about it in the news(barely, and they downplay it A LOT) and I'm just waiting for the lady fuhrer to come out and dare say she doesn't support the protests, she would have the whole German-Turkish population on her ass, and on the other hand the Turkish PM and her are good buds. I can't fucking believe that people vote at all. They're militarizing the continent because they know people are getting fed up(and they should be scared).
..And these people point fingers at CHINA and say they have a political elite? Really? There's NEVER been more of a political elite in Europe as it is now, most politicians and decision makers weren't even voted for, and CHINA isn't democratic enough for them.

Anyone have any other trustworthy news sites than RT and twitter? Would be nice to get more in-depth info(the contrainfo link was good though).

The mainstream media of Denmark never dissapoints me, by claiming that the "violent" protesters are protesting because of the "islamic conservative government" its much more than that

It's not for constant feed, but they also sent me this blog today http://defnesumanblogs.com/2013/06/01/w ... -istanbul/

I started chatting with a couple of Turkish people at work today, quiet, middle-aged, nothing to do with the young and rebellious protesters everyone usually is looking to blame (though, obviously, the situation in Turkey has long surpassed that). They were both taking the piss at the government, saying they'll never be free unless it fucking falls - there is no other way. And that's when they looked really mad - especially with all the new laws that have come to pass lately.
They're totally freaked out about how the government and the media have been masterfully covering it all up there (I can't believe the bastards still get away with it that easily).
They were worried about the one and only substantial green space left in the city, about their people and about keeping up the fight.
They just told us "let people know!"

Thanks, Black Nova. One of the brilliant hashtags on Twitter for #OccupyGezi is #resistanbul

I don't think that anyone in Turkey, or anywhere for that matter, was too surprised to learn that the developer of the shopping mall for which the park was to be bulldozed, is Erdogan's son-in-law.

I just hope it doesn't end up like Egypt where they they were so focused on the head military-corporate spokespuppet (in Egy'pt's case it was Mubarak and in Turkey it is Erdogan), that they fell for the old election scam and ended up with a new spokespuppet but the old system still in place. It isn't Erdogan, as there are plenty of military-corporate spokespuppets eager to take his place, but capitalism that's got to go.

This park-thing was only a trigger, there were tensions rising lastly because of islamic government(they've recently forbidden selling alcohol after 10 PM etc.) is trying to turn Turkey into being Iran #2.
Don't fool yourself though, most of them aren't anarchists, they're just fed up of these pricks.
Most of protesters are waiting for army to make a coup - they've thrown off people like Erdogan few times before(in 70's and 80's).

Of course there are some anarchists and communists on the streets(same goes for Syria, same was in Egypt, Persia-Iran, and nothing really worked), but I doubt that it'll turn in something bigger.

People need green spaces to remain relatively sane, not another fucking shopping mall. Fucking unbelievable! Can you imagine New York without Central Park, or London without Hyde Park? Or without any parks at all?

Gezi Park is now a utopic ‘Freetown’

Istanbul’s city center is now a timeless place after the police withdrawal. Closed by barricades, Gezi Park and Taksim now belong solely to people and ideologies previously deemed closed to the mainstream

From Hurriyet Daily News

At the entrance of Copenhagen’s famous Freetown Christiania, visitors are greeted with a hand-painted sign reading “You are now leaving the EU.” Right now, something similar can be said for the Gezi Park – it’s no longer Istanbul as you know it.

Since the police withdrawal from the city center on June 1 as a result of clashes with protesters, the Taksim district has been occupied as could never have been predicted. Closed with barricades, the central district now solely belongs to the people, and to ideologies that were previously deemed completely closed to the mainstream.

Bright lights and loud music coming from İstiklal Avenue are not there. Shops are closed, and graffiti fills their windows. On Taksim Square, it feels like the post-apocalypse has met the day after revolution. A wrecked NTV van and a crashed police car have been left like remnants of the Berlin Wall, open for photographing. The iconic Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM) has been covered with flags: Legendary 1970’s revolutionary Deniz Gezmiş looks down on the area, while next to him are posters of left-wing groups and a “shut up” call to Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Just a week ago, even the thought of such a scene was impossible. Now, with the occupation, it has become the reality.

Forty-nine percent

Make no mistake, even though it has a passing resemblance to the “Occupy” movement, this is not a “We are the 99 percent” action. It is more like, “We are the 49 percent.” It is the mobilization of thousands who do not find themselves represented in the Parliament. The protests were more about people, mostly youths, making themselves heard by a government that enjoys too much comfort from its majority and forgets to hear the concerns of the minority.

As a crowd that was complaining of discrimination, the Gezi people are embracing their differences beautifully. On June 1, slogans were silenced when a prayer call was heard. “From now on, respect for every belief will prevail,” one said. That approach was again used yesterday, when they asked people not to drink alcohol out of respect to the sacred night of Lailat al–Mi’raj.

Inside the Gezi Park, the utopian feeling is multiplied. There are open buffets for people feeding themselves, yoga sessions in the morning and now, a library. Every morning, after the police withdrawal, protesters got the area squeaky clean. People have fun in their own way and nobody intervenes: Kurds dance their halays, Laz people do their horon dance, and a group with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk flags chant their slogans - All this happens within a few meters’ distance.

There are lots of differences, but no conflict. There are no police, but it’s safe. No hierarchy, but a humane order.

For a country where the democratic tradition is about rights being given from the top to bottom, it is about reversing the order.

It is about sharing, kindness, and reasoning. So romantic, for sure; but it is there.

We know that it won’t be forever. Enjoy it while it lasts.

This is one awesome pic.

The Turkish government is now working on shutting down Facebook completely, which they estimate will happen in the next three weeks.

Total fucking dictatorship, or what?

HAILS FROM ISTANBUL, TURKEY!!!

UNFORTUNATELY, THE SITUATION IN TURKEY (FIRSTLY; ISTANBUL AND ANKARA OF COURSE) IS EVEN WORSE THAN YOU THINK!!! FASCIST GOVERNMENT'S KILLER COPS BRUTALLY ATTACK TO THE PEOPLE AND THEY'RE HARDENING MORE AND RUTHLESS DAY BY DAY.

HERE'S IN TURKEY, A BIG CIVIL COMMOTION CONTINUES AGAINST THE FASCIST STATE!!! KNOW THIS, FASCIST TURKISH GOVERNMENT TRY TO RESTRICT OUR LIFES!!! AND WHILE THEY ARE ORDERING THE KILLER POLICE TO EXTERMINATE THE PROTESTERS WITH GAS BOMBS AND PLASTIC BULLETS, HERE'S THE MEDIA FOR SALE WHICH IS UNDER THE OPPRESSION OF GOVERNMENT, THEY NEVER PUBLISH THESE ATTACKS!!! A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED AND SOME OF THEM WERE KILLED!!!

IT BEGAN AS A GEZI PARK PROTEST IN TAKSIM/ISTANBUL BUT THE MAIN TOPIC WAS NOT THAT, IT ONLY FIRED THE YOUTH ABOUT THEIR FREEDOM BECAUSE THE SOCIETY OF TURKEY WAS FED UP FROM THE INCREDIBLE OPPRESSION OF THE GOVERNMENT. THEY TRIED TO DICTATE US IN THE LAST 5-6 YEARS AND THEY WANT MONOTYPE, RELIGIOUS, AND SUBMISSIVE YOUTH IN TURKEY. THE GOVERNMENT HAVE DONE MANY LAWS INVOLVED IN THE LIFE OF SOCIETY. THEY ARRESTED ALL THE OPPOSITIONAL PEOPLE, THEY SLOWLY TRY TO BRING SHARIA RULES. (MANY JOURNALISTS/STUDENTS HAVE BEEN JAILED IN THE LAST 5 YEARS CAUSE OF THEIR IDEAS OR PROTESTS IN THE STREETS) THEY INVADED ALL THE MEDIA SO THE MEDIA IS ALSO UNDER THE OPPRESSION OF THEM.

* IF A JOURNALIST WHO CRITICIZE THE GOVERNMENT MEETS BIG OPRESSIONS OR CAN BE FIRED FROM HIS WORK. OR THE ARTISTS/ACTRESSES/SINGERS WHO SUPPORTED THE PROTESTERS AND CRITICIZE THE GOVERNMENT THEY WERE DECLARED AS THEIR ENEMY IMMEDIATELY!!! THE PRIME MINISTER SAID "THE ARTISTS WHO SUPPORTED THEM, THEY SHOULD BE AFRAID OF US, THEN THE FUTURE PROCESS WILL BE DIFFERENT FOR THEM"

* THE PRIME MINISTER ALWAYS DECLARED THE PEOPLE WHO CRITICIZE THE GOVERNMENT AS "TERRORISTS" AND HE LABELED US AS "MARAUDER, MARGINAL, PARASITIC" BUT INCLUDING THE GOVERNMENT, ALL OF THE COUNTRY KNOWS THAT; MOST OF THE FOLLOWERS OF GOVERNMENT ARE EXTREME RELIGIOUS, IGNORANT, NOT READING BOOKS, MOST OF THEM AGAINST THE ART, ALCOHOL, CULTURAL EVENTS, NATURE, ANIMAL LOVERS AND THEY'RE AGREE TO BE LIKE A SLAVE OF GOVERNMENT FOR ONLY MUSLIM PROPAGANDA, "ISLAMIC EXPLOITATION", AND ONE-TIME DISTRIBUTED FREE FOOD", SO THEY ARE ALWAYS BEING DECEIVED BY THE GOVERNMENT. THINK LIKE TODAY'S IRAN OF AFGHANISTAN. THE GOVERNMENT WANTS THEOCRACY...

* SO, THE PROTESTERS ARE CONSISTING OF INTELLIGENT PEOPLE WHO ARE STANDING AGAINST EXPLOITATION, RELIGIONIST STRUCTURING AND FASCISM DESIRES OF GOVERNMENT, SO THE GOVERNMENT PROVOKE THEIR FOLLOWERS WITH THEIR LIE COMMENTS LIKE "THEY'RE TERRORIST, THEY WANT TO DESTROY THE ISLAM" AND THEY ORDERED THEIR ADHERENT MEDIA TO TELL THE LIES ABOUT US AND DECEIVE THEIR FOLLOWERS AGAINST US. THEY'RE USING THE RELIGION VERY NICE, SO THERE WERE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE IN THE STREETS WHO WERE PROVOKED BY THE GOVERNMENT AND THEY HAD BATONS, STONES AND MACHETES AND THEY CHASED THE PROTESTERS IN THE STREETS TO INJURE THEM.

* DUE TO POLICE UNIT'S EXCESSIVE USE OF CHEMICAL GAS, COUNTLESS BIRDS, CATS AND DOGS DIED. MANY OF PEOPLE WERE INJURED AND 5 PEOPLE WERE KILLED BY THE COPS.

* (ONE OF THE PROTESTERS NAMED "ETHEM SARISULUK" WAS SHOT IN THE HEAD BY THE COP, COP ESCAPED AND THE GOVERNMENT AND THE POLICE UNIT TRY TO COVER UP THE MURDER SO THE KILLER COP HASN'T BEEN APPEARED YET)
ETHEM SARISULUK'S DYING
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0daS16bs6jY

* EVIL APPROACH OF TURKISH MEDIA!!! THE MEDIA IS THE SAME IN EVERYWHERE AS YOU KNOW, BUT WE CAN LEARN THE TRUTH FROM CNN LIVE, SO TV CHANNELS OF THE TURKISH GOVERNMENT SAY "PROVOCATORS ATTACKED TO THE COPS WITH MOLOTOV COCKTAILS".
http://o1306.hizliresim.com/1b/g/p5h7v.jpg

* THIS IS TOO IMPORTANT!!! EVIL GAME OF POLICE TO PRESENT THE PROTESTERS AS "EVIL" IN FRONT OF INTERNATIONAL MEDIA. TURKISH GOVERNMENT FINALLY PERFORMED THEIR LATEST RIDICULOUS GAME ABOUT THE ACTIVISTS TO PRESENT THEM AS "EVIL". ON 11th JUNE, THE COPS WHO ARE DRESSED AS THE ACTIVISTS THEY THREW THE MOLOTOV COCKTAILS AND STONES TO THE UNIFORMED COPS WHO WANT TO ENTER TAKSIM. THE MOST FUNNY THINGS WERE THE GOVERNOR'S ADMITTING EXPLANATION AND THE EPIC FAILURES OF THESE HIDDEN COPS TO HIDE THEIR GUNS AND WALKIE TALKIES. THE GOVERNOR BLABBED OUT IT BY SAYING "THEY WERE COOPERATING WITH POLICE" INSTEAD OF SAYING "THEY WERE CLASHING WITH THE POLICE".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFGne1s1SL8

AND THE CHANNELS OF THE MEDIA FOR SALE THAT HAVE NEVER PUBLISHED THE BRUTAL ATTACKS OF THE COPS AT LAST WEEK, AND THEY JUST PUBLISHED THESE EVENTS LIVE IMMEDIATELY. THIS WAS AN UNSUCCESSFULL DRAMA AND DESPICABLE SLANDER GAME IN GEZI PARKI, TAKSIM. TURKISH GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO CONSTITUTE AN UNFAIR SITUATION ABOUT THE ACTIVISTS. THIS WAS A DEFAMATION GAME TO THE ACTIVISTS IN FRONT OF INTERNATIONAL MEDIA.

* POLICE MIXED THE WATER WITH CHEMICAL GAS IN WATER TANKS AND THEY USED IT AGAINST THE PROTESTERS IN THE LAST TWO DAYS, SO SOME PROTESTERS WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED.

* THE PEAK OF CRUELTY; POLICE'S WATER TANK ALSO ATTACKED TO THE GERMAN HOSPITAL IN ISTANBUL CAUSE OF PROTESTERS ESCAPED TO THERE. THEY WATERED INTO THE HOSPITAL.

* MANY PEOPLE (INCLUDING ME) WERE TRAPPED IN THE PUBS, AND POLICE THROW THE GAS BOMBS IN FRONT OF THE PUBS SO MANY PEOPLE WERE DROWNED AND WE HARDLY SAVED OUR LIFES.
http://p1306.hizliresim.com/1b/g/p5h2n.jpg

* THE PROTESTER LAWYERS WERE BEATEN BY THE POLICE AND THEY WERE ARRESTED.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqOiNiHksks

* THIS GIRL WAS BRUTALLY BEATEN ABOUT 20 MINUTES BY A DOZEN OF COPS. (THERE WERE HUNDREDS OF PROTESTERS WHO WERE BRUTALLY BEATEN, SHE'S ONLY ONE OF THEM)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMb0GHoA0nA

* RAMADA HOTEL AND DIVAN HOTEL HELPED TO THE PROTESTERS AND THEY WERE THREATENED BY THE GOVERNMENT, SO THE POLICE ATTACKED TO THE INJURED PEOPLE IN THESE HOTELS AND ARRESTED THE INJURED PROTESTERS AND THE DOCTORS WHO TREATED INJURED PEOPLE/ACTIVISTS IN RAMADA HOTEL.
http://n1306.hizliresim.com/1b/k/p8gm8.jpg

* A PROTESTER IS BEING BRUTALLY BEATEN BY THE COPS AND GOVERNMENT'S RADICAL ISLAMIST SUPPORTERS. (SOME OF THEM ALSO CIVIL COPS)

* THE COPS ARE BURNING THE TENTS OF THE PROTESTERS WITHOUT RHYME OR REASON.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8ojPw2NKzA

* THE COPS ARE REJECTING THE FOOD TREAT OF THE PROTESTER AND THEY'RE ALSO WATERING AND SHATTERING THEM WITH WATER CANNON.

* THREE PROTESTERS WHO WERE KILLED BY THE POLICE.
http://p1306.hizliresim.com/1b/g/p5gnz.jpg

* VICE NEWS DID A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT THE PROTESTS.
http://www.vice.com/vice-news/istanbul-rising

* THE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO BRING SHARIA RULES. THEY WANT TO DOMINATE BY ISLAMIC RULES ON MANY TOPICS LIKE ARTS, CULTURE, AND THE LIVING OF SOCIETY.

* THEY BANNED THE ALCOHOL BETWEEN THE HOURS 22.00 PM - 06.00 AM. (AND SURE THEY WILL BAN COMPLETELY SOON, BECAUSE THEY'RE BRINGING ALL THE RULES GRADUALLY) MANY FESTIVALS WERE CANCELLED CAUSE OF BANNED ALCOHOL. BECAUSE ACCORDING TO THE NEW LAW, THE BEER FIRMS CANNOT BE SPONSOR. AND ALCOHOL ADVERTISING WAS ALSO BANNED COMPLETELY.

* IN THIS PROTESTS, COPS KILLED FIVE PEOPLE AND INJURED MANY OF THEM. SOME OF PROTESTERS LOST THEIR EYES CAUSE OF THE SHELL OF GAS BOMBS. SOME OF THEM WERE INJURED BY GAS BOMBS.

* THE COPS USED THE PEPPER GAS AND THE MUSTARD GAS IN INCREDIBLE MEASURE. THEY USED THE GAS IN TWO WEEKS WHICH EUROPEAN COUNTRIES USE IN ONE YEAR.

* PRIME MINISTER SAID HE WANTS RELIGIOUS YOUTH.

* MANY OPPOSITION JOURNALISTS WERE ARRESTED AND SOME OF THEM WAS FIRED CAUSE OF THEIR ARTICLES AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT.

* %95 OF MEDIA UNDER THE OPPRESSION OF THE GOVERNMENT, ONLY TWO CHANNELS AND A FEW NEWSPAPERS REMAINED.

* ONE INDEPENDENT TV (HALK TV) WAS AMERCED CAUSE OF THEY RELEASED THE REALITIES ABOUT THE PROTESTS IN TURKEY.

* TURKISH ACTORS/ACTRESSES/SINGERS WHO SUPPORTED THE PROTESTS, THEY WERE THREATENED BY THE GOVERNMENT AND THEIR IGNORANT/RADICAL ISLAMIST FOLLOWERS ESPECIALLY. IF THEY EVEN A LITTLE BIT CRITICIZE, THEY WERE ACCEPTED AS ENEMY BY THE GOVERNMENT IMMEDIATELY.

* SOME TURKISH ACTORS/ACTRESSES/SINGERS WHO SUPPORTED THE GOVERNMENT, THEY WERE PRAISED BY THE GOVERNMENT.

* THE MINISTERS OF THE GOVERNMENT TRY TO INFORM WITH WRONG INFORMATIONS TO TRICK THE INTERNATIONAL MEDIA. PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THEY TELL!!! IF YOU BASE THE GOVERNMENT'S DESCRIPTIONS, THEN YOU'LL SEE HOW YOUR SOURCE IS WRONG CAUSE OF THE GOVERNMENT'S INCREASING FASCIST DIRECTION SOON.

* THEY LITIGATED AGAINST MANY DISSIDENT CARTOONISTS.

I THINK THIS IS REAL CRUELTY!!!
THE GOVERNMENT'S MAYOR OF ANKARA HANG A BANNER INTO THE PARK THAT ETHEM SARISULUK WAS KILLED BY THE POLICE.
"TURKISH POLICE, ANKARA IS PROUD OF YOU" WRITES ON THE BANNER.
http://m1306.hizliresim.com/1b/j/p79x8.jpg

* AND THE SAME MAYOR OFTEN THREATENS THE STUDENTS AND HE LITIGATED TO MANY OF STUDENTS WHO CRITICIZED HIM. HE ALSO THREATENED THE MUNICIPALITY WORKERS TO FIRE FROM THEIR WORKS WHO WANT TO JOIN THE PROTESTS.

* THE SAME MAYOR AND PRIME MINISTER THREATENS THE PROTESTERS TO DESTROY THEM. THEY TRY TO PROVOKE WITH THEIR FOLLOWERS.

* POLICE CAUGHT ADDING PEPPER SPRAY TO WATER CANNONS, RESULTING IN SEVERE CHEMICAL BURNS.
http://o1306.hizliresim.com/1b/k/p8gvy.jpg

* BESIKTAS, FENERBAHCE AND GALATASARAY ARE THREE BIGGEST FOOTBALL TEAMS IN TURKEY. AND MOST OF THEIR FANS (ESPECIALLY "CARSI" TEAM OF BESIKTAS) SUPPORTED THE PROTESTERS, AND JOINED TO THE PROTESTS, SO SOME OF THEM WERE ARRESTED TWO DAYS AGO. "CARSI" TEAM'S MEMBERS WERE DECLARED AS "TERRORISTS" BY THE POLICE AND GOVERNMENT.

* THE GOVERNMENT INSULTS THE YOUTH WHO DOES NOT FIT THEIR LIFE STYLES WHICH THEY WANTED. THEY SAID "WHORE" ABOUT THE FEMALE PROTESTS, AND SLANDERED TO THE PROTESTERS ABOUT THEY DRUNK IN MOSQUE TO PROVOKE THEIR FOLLOWERS. BUT IMAM OF THE MOSQUE SAID "THE PROTESTERS DID NOT DRINK IN THE MOSQUE", SO THE GOVERNMENT DECLARED THE IMAM AS THEIR ENEMY.

* IN ANKARA, MORE VIOLENT EVENTS CONTINUE IN LAST 10 DAYS YOU CAN NOT EVEN IMAGINE. THE PROTESTERS OF ANKARA BEGAN CAUSE OF SUPPORT THE PROTESTERS IN ISTANBUL AND THEY SAW MORE BRUTAL ATTACKS THAN ISTANBUL. THE COPS IN EVERYWHERE OF ANKARA AND THEY ARREST IMMEDIATELY, AND THE STREETS OF ANKARA WERE DROWNED BY THE GAS BOMBS. MANY PROTESTERS ARE BADLY BEATEN BY THE COPS WHEN THEY WERE CAUGHT IN THE STREETS.
- THE COPS ARE THROWING GAS BOMBS IN ANKARA EVERY DAY.
- THEY SNARE AND BEAT MANY PROTESTERS IN DARK STREETS.
- COPS ARE TURNING OFF THE POWER AND THEY ENTER TO THE APARTMENTS TO ARREST THE PROTESTERS.
- POLICE WATER TANKS ARE OFTEN ATTACKING TO THE PROTESTERS WITH WATER CANNONS.
- IN EVERY MORNING THE COPS TRY TO TEAR THE TENTS OF THE PROTESTERS.
- POLICE MAKES UNUSABLE THE INFIRMARIES OF THE PROTESTERS.
- PLEASE FIRST FOLLOW THE EVENTS IN ANKARA AND ALSO ISTANBUL, IZMIR AND THE OTHER MANY CITIES.

INJUSTICE!!!

* THE GOVERNMENT STOPPED MASLAK-TAKSIM METRO SO THE PROTESTERS HAVE TO WALK TO TAKSIM ABOUT 30 MINUTES.

* IN THE OTHER SIDE; THE GOVERNMENT CANCELLED THE ENDING TIME OF AKSARAY - ATATÜRK AIRPORT METRO FROM 12.00 PM TO 4.00 AM ON 7TH JUNE, BECAUSE THAT NIGHT THE FOLLOWERS OF THE GOVERNMENT WENT TO WELCOME FOR PRIME MINISTER IN THE AIRPORT IN THE MORNING. (HE RETURNED FROM TUNIS JOURNEY)

I WILL SHARE MORE INFORMATIONS WITH YOU SOON!!! SUPPORT THE PROTESTERS AND DO NOT BELIEVE TO THE WORDS OF ANY TURKISH POLITICIANS!!!

Turkish Unions Hold National Strike as Protesters Face Worst Crackdown to Date

Jun 17, 2013

More than 800,000 people are believed to be taking part in a national strike by Turkish unions in protest of the government's crackdown on nearly three weeks of protests. The strike follows a weekend that saw the protests' worst violence to date. On Sunday, around 400 people were arrested as police used tear gas, water cannon and rubber bullets in the streets of Istanbul, Ankara and other cities.
