Genetically Modified Glow Pigs?

    I don't know if you guys have heard about this, which you may very well have since it happened YEARS ago, but I just found out about it today. Researchers in Taiwan created 3 male pigs that "glow" in the dark, inside and out. Supposedly, besides this glowing, and a greenish tint to the pig's bodies, they are completely ordinary pigs (though, somehow, I don't buy that.) They did this by adding genetic material from a jelly fish to an ordinary pig embryo. It is said that this would help them with stem cell research as it encodes a protein in the pigs DNA that shows up green.

    Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone knew anything further about this?
    Also, Do you feel that this is wrong, are you okay with it?


    Personally, I think it fucked. If pigs were ment to glow theyd do it without our damn help, and there is a possibility that there were side effects to the pigs that were overlooked or completely ignored due to the gene mixing.

    ye man genetic engineering is a big problem. i started a similar topic a while back and i had some good informative replies, you might wanna check it out.

    i did hear about this and i agree its fucked up. i also heard about Chinese scientists placing cow DNA in lettuce to see if it changed the taste.

    hopefully we aint eating this shit and a good way to avoid it is growing your own foods from organic seeds which is much much cheaper than buying organic food from supermarkets.

    shits fucking scary, no one should fuck with DNA like that, I feel sorry for those poor pigs :'(, I wish someone genetically modified those bastard scientists instead.

    yeah, I am going to start growing my own food once some like minded friends and I can afford some place that has a lot of land together. And I will definatly check that out. What was the title?

    As much as i think that genetic engineering is pretty fucked up at its core (animal experiments and such, i approve certain medical stuff) , i can stop thinking "you could have tried to cure cancer, and you made a pig glow. What the fuck is wrong with you???"

    Lol that's not included in the "Doctors" job description. These guys are paid for by companies like Nestle and Kraft. It wouldn't be in their best interests to save people's lives or stuff like that. Their main priority is to make frakenfood that's easy to make and distribute
    and make sure their splicing works (which the glow pigs are evidence of).
