Well, this is a combo reply to you and jack.
Jack, trust me when I say not all Japanese stuff is poppy high pitched sounding.

Take the 5 gods of Japanese hardcore.
Deathside, Bastard, GISM, Crow and Gauze.

That to me, is how "legit" punk sounds, now if you wanna go even further into it and sub divide it into genres, You have Extinct government as the "street punk" style band, though theyre releases are never consistent, COBRA if you want some decent OI, but only some of that, for insane blown out D-BEAT insanity you have DISCLOSE, Killer straight up hardcore you have CLOWN, Tetsu Arei, Gudon, Warhead, Forward, Crude, Etae and a ton more.

Then if you want to hear a band that is just plain amazing, Paintbox.
Chelsea, if you ask me, was the best guitar player and song writer in the history of punk/hardcore/whatever you wanna call it.

Just look at the bands he was in and songs he wrote, Poison/Poison arts, Human Arts, Death side(this alone is all you need to know), guest leads on a ton of albums and helped record and engineer a ton more.

Too much fashion and not enough substance in american punx bands these days, its like everyone forgot how to play thier instruments or something...

Glady, the same cant be said for the american crust scene...

Mark Unseen is NOT in "Rejected Youth." I haven't seen him in a long time but I double checked his Myspace. He's currently in the Unseen, and his new(ish) band Ashers.

as long as there are homeless theres 'st punk', we have ta to fight this at every turn/do not be afraid to speak/it means something/don't be an arse or you'll look like one, i've had too many cajoled by the bright lights of hair dye and spikes, no divide and conquer.

Actually it's kind of the reverse. Street punk is bigger here on the East Coast than probably anywhere in the world. In CT where there's about 150 punks for the entire state we manage to have an independent street punk scene. Eastern CT is mostly street punks with a smaller crusty group, West is mostly hardcore (80's style, though I hate to call it that).

WTF??? Rejected Youth aren't Mark Unseens Band at all. They just did a song together (Black Army). By the way, all money they earn with the "Black Army" Release goes to the antifascist action.

RY is one of the best political Punkbands at the moment..

And if you're lookin' for really good streetpunk, have a look at them: http://www.myspace.com/obtrusive
    They're just fuckin' great!

    i;m going to disagree.
i'm probably one of 5 or 6 people in my area who don't eat up the pogo punk shit trying to pass as street and love it.
But the midwest does have some good to offer

ok so i forgot where d-clone is from but they're badass and from some part of asia..

and if your talking about street punk as in "oi" my opinion is that that type of music is being sold out to expesive venues and not supporting or caring for any diy scene.. such as knocked out cold.. almost every band wants to be that well known to play big venues but so many forget the purpose of why they play in the first place.

some things that cheered me up was when fleas and lice played in rolling hieghts, ca, bout a year and a half ago, in a giant parking lot for cheap... or when naked aggression played at a clitfest, a diy event, for about 5 bucks i believe? but this kinda shit still keeps my hopes going

other than that think of street punk of not dying, but changing into something different. you can argue this, but i think as a subculture of which we celebrate independence (punk minors living with parents dont count) we have chosen to live the working class life or to be a squatter.
my opinion on music now is that its more straightfoward than the generalizing bands that we've all first listened to.. (such as the bands metioned by others on this topic). you've gotta just search for em at other places than big sell-out venues.

People here r too cynical for that, mores the pity, they're more concerned about travel, activism tourism, hipsterism! has taken over ugfuck, its ok to buy at majors but not to run a 'store', they won't buy from you but then blame you for not supporting them when 'their friends' do it when we could have done it 'together', when they rent out expensive space or won't let you in to the space or get rid of something they may have been holding/trust

in the end: wats the point, its all about being cool, ie: indirect crapitalist supporters cause thats all they've known, 'oh but they grow veges' *sigh, i've even lent gear out and not been given a hint of kudos so its not like i started anything, they're just toooo cool, 'anotha heineken?', hipsters don't care, death to that culture, i'm movin to the country like amebix to rip a new one and make some progress

Listen I'm right down the freeway from you, and I respectfully beg to differ, Street punk is alive and well in Southern & Northern Cali. as a matter of fact it's doing better now than I've ever seen it. We're getting a couple shows a week here and a lot of bands are coming through town ( San Diego & Tijuana ) I only see it getting stronger as a lot of kids have started their own bands, and a lot of the older truly great bands have re-united or reformed...Check out my page at myspace.com/tijuanarquia and click on the San Diego Pyrate Punx Icon to get linx to Pyrate Punk shows in your area. I think maybe its the Orange County thing as unfortunately it is one of the most republican fascist areas in the whole country.....ripe for Anarchist activities!

Look ese, if you have a problem with the whole So Cal Pop "punk" thing thats your own problem. Thats what you get for paying attention to what the media labels 'punk'. Now your lumping a whole scene into your interpretation, and if your just a tough guy that goes around wanting to punch kids in the mouth because they dont jibe with your view of the world then all I can do is laugh at you for your ignorance. Chale tough guy....

    In the words of a//political....

"Chaos punk = Apathy = A waste of time"

if street punk really is dying, and i sincerely have my doubts due to the fact that most of the bands in my area play that type of shit, then i am all for it. the vast majority of those bands contribute absolutely nothing aside from getting any and all punk bands blackballed at every available venue, thanks to their "fans" tearing shit up. And honestly...how many songs about drinking beer and "fuckin' shit up" can you possibly write without becoming absolutely redundant?

don't get me wrong, i do realize there are a few "street punk" bands that are awesome (Defiance, Oxymoron, Krum Bums), but if the scene as a whole actually dies....i say "What's the problem?"
